Leo is a nine-year-old boy who lives in Sunhaven, a city that floats high above the clouds, where the sun always shines and no one has ever seen rain, snow, thunder or a rainbow. Curious and adventurous, Leo wears his yellow raincoat and red rubber boots even though it never rains, and one day he finds a small gap in the shimmering cloud barrier at the edge of the city. With his companion Pip, a fluffy cloud-spirit cat with pale blue eyes and a brass bell on its ribbon, Leo slips through the gap and tumbles down to a green world below, where he experiences rain on his face, a rainbow arching across the sky, drifting snowflakes, rumbling thunder and the fresh smell of earth after a storm.
When Leo returns to Sunhaven, he tells everyone about the wonders he has seen, but not all the people are eager to listen. Some are curious, while others are afraid of change and ask why they would want such things when they already have everything they need. Mayor Elara listens carefully, and Grandpa Sol remembers old stories of rain and rainbows from his boyhood. Leo's drawings and stories, together with Pip's friendly nudge, slowly help the people of Sunhaven reconsider what their closed barrier has kept away.
The book follows Leo as he shares his discoveries and gently shows that changing weather is not something to fear but an adventure, and that every storm brings a rainbow. It is a warm story for young readers about curiosity, courage and the value of opening yourself to new experiences, and it invites children and the adults reading with them to talk about comfort, change and the beauty of the natural world.

A Chapter from the Book
The City Above the Rain Yavuz DEMİRKIRAN
High above the clouds floated a city called Sunhaven, where the sun always shone and the sky was always blue. The people there had never seen rain or snow. They had never heard thunder or smelled fresh earth after a storm. Every day was warm and bright, and everyone was comfortable, but no one had ever seen a rainbow. 1
Leo was nine years old, with curly black hair and bright hazel eyes. He wore a yellow raincoat and red rubber boots, even though it never rained. He loved to explore the edges of the city, where the cloud barrier shimmered like a soap bubble. One day, he found a small gap in the barrier and peeked through. Below, he saw a world full of clouds and colors he had never imagined. 2
Leo’s companion was Pip, a fluffy cloud-spirit cat with pale blue eyes and a blue ribbon with a brass bell. Pip could drift through the barrier as easily as a breeze. “Come on, Leo!” Pip meowed, and slipped through the gap. Leo took a deep breath and followed. He tumbled through the soft clouds and landed gently on a green hill far below Sunhaven. 3
Leo stood in a world that smelled of wet grass and flowers. Dark clouds gathered above, and suddenly, raindrops pattered on his yellow raincoat. He laughed and spun around, catching drops on his tongue. Then the sun peeked out, and a rainbow arched across the sky. “It’s beautiful!” Leo whispered. He had never seen anything like it. 4
Leo explored further. He saw snowflakes drifting down like tiny stars, and he built a small snowman. He heard thunder rumble in the distance, and he wasn’t scared because Pip purred beside him. He watched lightning flash and felt the ground shake. Then the storm passed, and the air smelled fresh and clean. Leo filled his satchel with memories to share. 5
When Leo returned to Sunhaven, everyone gathered around him. He told them about rain that danced on rooftops, about snow that sparkled like diamonds, and about thunder that rolled like a drum. The people listened with wide eyes. Some were curious, but others were afraid. “Why would we want such things?” they murmured. “We have everything we need here.” 6
Mayor Elara, tall and wise with silver-streaked hair, listened carefully. She wore a white and gold robe with a sun emblem. “We have kept our barrier closed for generations,” she said. “It keeps us safe and comfortable. But perhaps Leo has seen something we have forgotten.” She looked at the cloud barrier and frowned, unsure. 7
Grandpa Sol, Leo’s grandfather, sat in his faded orange cardigan and round spectacles. He remembered old stories from when he was a boy—stories of rain and rainbows. “I always wondered if they were true,” he said softly. “Leo, you have brought back wonderful tales. Maybe it’s time we opened our sky and let nature in.” 8
Leo showed everyone the rainbow he had drawn in the air with a special light. He told them how fresh the earth smelled after rain, and how happy the animals in the world below seemed. “The weather changes,” Leo said, “but it’s not scary. It’s an adventure! And when the storm ends, everything feels new.” The people began to whisper and smile. 9
Pip the cloud-spirit cat drifted up to Mayor Elara and rubbed against her robe. The little brass bell jingled. “Even the clouds like adventures,” Leo said. Mayor Elara looked at Pip, then at Leo’s eager face. She thought about the endless sunny days and how everyone sometimes wished for something different. “Perhaps a little change would do us good,” she said. 10
Mayor Elara stood before the great cloud barrier. “We will open the sky,” she announced. “Not all the way, but enough to let the weather visit us. We will learn to enjoy both sunshine and rain.” The people cheered. Leo and Pip danced with joy. Grandpa Sol wiped a happy tear from his eye. 11
The barrier shimmered and slowly parted. A gentle breeze blew in, carrying the smell of rain. Clouds drifted into Sunhaven, and the first raindrops fell on the astonished faces of the people. They laughed and held out their hands. Then the sun broke through, and a rainbow stretched across the city. Everyone gasped at its beauty. 12
After the rain, the air smelled fresh and new. Children jumped in puddles, and gardeners planted flowers that bloomed brighter than ever. The people of Sunhaven learned to dance in the rain and to build snowmen in winter. They discovered that thunder was just nature’s drumroll, and that every storm brought a rainbow. Happiness grew in their hearts. 13
Leo became a hero, but he didn’t stop exploring. He often visited the world below with Pip and brought back new stories. Mayor Elara opened the barrier a little wider each year, and the city learned to welcome every kind of weather. They found joy in both comfort and challenge, and they never forgot the boy who showed them the sky. 14
Grandpa Sol sat with Leo on a hill, watching a rainbow fade. “You know,” he said, “happiness isn’t about always having sunshine. It’s about enjoying the sunshine and the rain.” Leo nodded and smiled. Pip purred on his lap. Sunhaven was no longer just a city of endless sunshine; it was a city of endless wonder.
