A Chapter from the Book

The Dandelion King Yavuz DEMİRKIRAN

High on a sunny hill stood a giant dandelion, and inside its fluffy white head lived King Dandy. He was a tiny king, no bigger than your thumb, with warm honey-gold skin and fluffy seed hair that puffed up like a crown. His green leaf cloak rustled as he waved his golden sceptre. "What a perfect day in our dandelion castle!" he cheered. 1

King Dandy's kingdom was full of cheerful friends. Pip the ladybug zipped through the air, her seven-spotted red shell shining and her blue scarf fluttering. Granny Fluff, the wise elder, sat in her purple petal shawl and told stories of the wind. Buzz the bumblebee, fuzzy and round in his red neckerchief, carried messages from petal to petal. Everyone felt safe and happy. 2

Each morning, King Dandy climbed to the top of the dandelion to greet the sun. He loved how the castle swayed gently in the breeze. "A tiny king in a dandelion castle," he said, "with brave friends all around." Granny Fluff nodded wisely. "Change is coming, little king," she said, "but we will face it together." 3

One day, a big windy change swept over the hill. WHOOSH! The dandelion's seeds broke free and floated away like tiny parachutes. The castle cracked and split into floating islands! "Hold on!" cried King Dandy as his island drifted left and Pip's flew right. The wind laughed and pushed them apart. 4

King Dandy's island spun through the sky. He held tight to his acorn-cap crown and looked for his friends. "Pip! Granny! Buzz!" he called. Far away, he saw Pip's red shell glinting. Pip flew up, quick as a flash. "I'll scout ahead!" she shouted. "I'll find everyone!" And she zoomed off into the clouds. 5

Granny Fluff's island floated slowly, like a fluffy cloud. She wasn't scared. She adjusted her tiny round glasses and smiled. "Change is just a new adventure," she said. "We must be adaptable." She tapped her seed-pod walking stick and called to Buzz. "Buzz, dear, can you carry messages?" Buzz nodded, his goggles bouncing. "On my way!" he buzzed. 6

Buzz flew as fast as his fuzzy wings could go. He carried notes between the islands. "King Dandy is safe!" he told Granny Fluff. "Pip found three more islands!" he told the king. But the wind was strong, and the islands drifted toward the tall mountains. "We must hurry!" cried King Dandy. "Before we float past the mountains!" 7

Pip darted from island to island, her leaf satchel full of important news. "The mountains are getting closer!" she warned. "We need a plan!" King Dandy thought hard. "We can't stop the wind," he said, "but we can work with it." He looked at his friends. "Let's tie the islands together with grass ropes!" 8

Everyone set to work. Buzz carried long blades of grass from island to island. Pip tied quick knots with her tiny legs. Granny Fluff directed from her walking stick. King Dandy used his sceptre to poke holes for the ropes. It was hard work, but they laughed and cheered each other on. "Teamwork!" shouted Buzz, nearly tumbling over. 9

Slowly, the floating islands began to pull together. The grass ropes held tight. But the wind was still strong, and the mountains loomed ahead. "We're not fast enough!" said Pip. King Dandy looked at the fluffy seed hair on his head. "Wait!" he said. "The seeds can help us!" He plucked a seed and held it up. 10

"We can use the seed fluff as sails!" King Dandy explained. "We'll catch the wind and steer together!" Buzz tied big seed fluff to the front of each island. Granny Fluff showed how to angle them. "Like this, dear," she said. "Let the wind be your friend." The islands began to move as one, gliding smoothly. 11

With the seed sails, the islands sailed together like a little fleet. King Dandy stood tall, his acorn-cap crown shining. "We're doing it!" he cheered. Pip flew ahead, guiding them around the mountains. Buzz pulled the ropes tight. Granny Fluff sang a happy song. The wind pushed them gently, and they floated past the mountains safely. 12

Finally, the islands bumped softly together. The friends hugged and danced. "We did it!" cried Pip. "Together!" said Granny Fluff. King Dandy smiled at his brave friends. "We learned that change can be good," he said. "We just have to adapt." They looked at their new home, a cluster of islands tied with grass. 13

The friends decided to build a new happy home. They used leaves for walls and petals for roofs. The dandelion castle was gone, but in its place was something better: a home that could travel anywhere on the wind. "We'll go wherever the wind takes us," said King Dandy. "And we'll be happy together." 14

Buzz attached the biggest seed fluff sail to the main island. Pip made a little lookout post on top. Granny Fluff planted tiny flower seeds in a little garden. King Dandy sat on his acorn-cap throne and looked at his friends. "This is our happy home," he said. "And it can go anywhere!" 15

And so the tiny king and his brave friends sailed the skies, always together. They learned that being adaptable helps everyone face change. When the wind blew, they didn't worry. They just adjusted their sails and smiled. "Where shall we go next?" asked Pip. "Anywhere!" said King Dandy. And they floated off, happy as could be.
