🎧 Listen to the Story · 6:32

In a sunny garden lives a snail named Emerald, whose glossy green spiral shell is his greatest pride. Every morning he polishes it with dew and greets the roses and daisies as he glides slowly along the path. One day he notices a tiny green sprout pushing out of a crack near the top of his shell. Curious, he lets it stay, and by the next morning a small pink bud has appeared. Soon more flowers open, each smaller than a button, and Emerald's shell becomes a little garden that he tends with great care.

Word spreads through the garden, and visitors begin to arrive: Pip the ladybug with her seven black dots, Buzz the clumsy bee wearing a flower petal behind one antenna, a grasshopper, a beetle, a family of ants, and finally Luna, a quiet moth who asks only for a peaceful corner to rest. As the shell grows crowded, Emerald realizes he must find a way for everyone to share the space. With Pip's help he arranges soft moss, a leaf chair and shady nooks, keeping one quiet corner for himself.

The story follows Emerald as he learns that wonderful things grow slowly and that what we treasure becomes richer when it is shared. Told in gentle, simple language, it is suited to young children being read to at bedtime and to early readers ready for a short chapter-like tale, offering themes of patience, hospitality and caring for living things.

A Chapter from the Book

The Emerald Snail Yavuz DEMİRKIRAN

In a cozy corner of a sunny garden, there lived a snail named Emerald. His shell was a glossy emerald-green spiral that shimmered in the light. His body was soft pale mint-green, and his dark round eyes sat on short stalks. Emerald loved his shell more than anything. Every morning, he polished it with dew and hummed a happy tune. 1

Emerald spent his days gliding slowly along the garden path. He nibbled tender leaves and said hello to the flowers. "Good morning, roses," he would whisper. "Hello, daisies." The garden was full of colors and sweet smells. Emerald felt lucky to live in such a lovely place, and he never hurried. After all, snails have all the time in the world. 2

One morning, Emerald noticed something strange inside his shell. A tiny green sprout was poking out of a crack near the top. "Oh my," he said, surprised. "How did you get in there?" The sprout did not answer. It just stood there, small and brave. Emerald decided to let it stay. He was curious to see what would happen next. 3

The next day, the sprout had grown a little taller. By afternoon, a tiny pink flower bud appeared. Emerald was amazed. "A flower! Inside my shell!" He showed it to the passing ants, who waved their antennae in wonder. That night, Emerald slept carefully, afraid to bump the little bud. He dreamed of gardens and soft petals. 4

In the morning, the bud had opened into a tiny pink flower. It smelled sweet, like honey and sunshine. Emerald felt very proud. He polished his shell extra gently so the flower would not be disturbed. "You are the first flower in my shell," he told it. "I will take good care of you." The flower swayed in the breeze. 5

Soon, another flower appeared, this one a tiny yellow bloom. Then a blue one, and a white one, each smaller than a button. Emerald's shell was becoming a little garden. He could hardly believe his eyes. "How wonderful!" he whispered. He showed each new flower to the sun and made sure they all had enough light. 6

The news of Emerald's shell garden spread quickly through the garden. The first visitor was a ladybug named Pip. She had a round red shell with seven black dots and carried a tiny leaf satchel. "I heard you have flowers in your shell!" she said, her eyes bright with curiosity. "May I see?" Emerald welcomed her warmly. 7

Pip was delighted by the tiny blooms. She fluttered around Emerald's shell, admiring each one. "I must tell everyone!" she declared. And she did. Soon, a fuzzy bee named Buzz arrived. He wore a blue flower petal behind one antenna like a hat. "I heard there are flowers here!" he buzzed. "I can help pollinate them!" 8

Buzz was enthusiastic but a little clumsy. He bumped into Pip and nearly knocked over the blue flower. "Oops! Sorry!" he buzzed. Emerald chuckled gently. "It's all right, Buzz. Just try to be gentle." Buzz nodded and tried to move more carefully. The flowers seemed to enjoy the attention, and new buds began to appear. 9

More insects came to visit. A grasshopper, a beetle, and a family of ants all wanted to see the shell garden. Emerald was happy to have guests, but his shell was getting crowded. It was hard to move around without bumping someone. "Excuse me, pardon me," he said as he squeezed past a line of ants. He began to feel a little worried. 10

One evening, a quiet moth named Luna arrived. Her wings were soft cream and pale lavender, speckled with silver. She spoke in a gentle whisper. "Your garden is lovely," she said. "May I rest here?" Emerald showed her a quiet corner near the top of his shell, away from the busy insects. Luna settled there and sighed contentedly. 11

Emerald watched Luna resting peacefully and had an idea. He could make cozy spots for all his guests! He asked Pip to help. Together, they arranged soft moss for the ants, a tiny leaf chair for Buzz, and a shady nook for the beetle. For himself, Emerald kept one quiet corner, just for stillness. "This is perfect," he said. 12

With everyone settled, Emerald's shell became a happy home for flowers and insects alike. Buzz pollinated the blooms, Pip greeted new visitors, and Luna rested in her quiet spot. Emerald glided around without bumping anyone. He felt calm and content. His shell was no longer just his; it was a friendly little world, and he loved it even more. 13

As the days passed, more flowers bloomed inside Emerald's shell. Each one was a small miracle, growing slowly and steadily. Emerald learned that wonderful things take time. "I never imagined my shell could hold so much," he told Pip. She smiled. "And it all started with one tiny sprout." Emerald nodded, feeling grateful for every small step. 14

Now, Emerald's shell is a cozy garden home. The flowers bloom in a rainbow of colors, and the insects come and go with happy buzzes and flutters. Luna visits in the evenings, and they share the quiet corner. Emerald knows that friendship, like a garden, grows slowly. And he is content to take his time, one small step at a time. 15

And so, in a sunny garden, a snail with a green shell teaches us something important. Wonderful things can develop slowly, like a flower growing inside a shell. Emerald learned to welcome guests and protect his peace. His shell became a place of friendship and beauty, all because he was patient and kind. The end.
