🎧 Listen to the Story · 7:58

In the bright blue ocean, where sunlight dances on the waves, lives a little seahorse named Crystal, whose body is made of clear, sparkling glass with a faint aqua tint. Light bends and twinkles through her like tiny stars, and because she is almost invisible in the water, she loves to play hide-and-seek among the colorful reefs. Her favorite game is hiding in the coral maze, a tangled forest of pink, purple and orange branches whose every twist and turn she knows by heart.

One sunny morning Crystal notices two young fish, Pip and Nibblet, who have wandered away from Old Coral, the wise elder fish, and become lost deep inside the coral maze. The water grows dim, the passages all look the same, and the two little fish are frightened. Crystal wants to help, but she is so small and clear that they may not even see her. Summoning her courage, she darts out of hiding and offers to lead them home, guiding them through narrow gaps and secret paths that only a small, clear seahorse can find.

The story follows their slow, careful journey through the maze as Crystal learns that the very quality that made her feel overlooked, her near invisibility, is the gift that lets her bring the little ones back to safety. Told in gentle, vivid language, it is a warm tale for young readers about courage, kindness and discovering that what makes you different can be exactly what makes you valuable.

A Chapter from the Book

The Glass Seahorse Yavuz DEMİRKIRAN

In the bright blue ocean, where sunlight danced on the waves, lived a little seahorse named Crystal. Her body was made of clear, sparkling glass with a faint aqua tint, so light bent and twinkled through her like tiny stars. Crystal loved to play hideand-seek among the colorful reefs. She would curl her delicate tail around a piece of coral and become almost invisible in the water. The other sea creatures would swim right past her, and she would giggle softly. 1

Crystal's favorite game was hiding in the coral maze, a tangled forest of pink, purple, and orange branches. She would slip through narrow gaps and peek out from secret spots. Her tiny round dark-blue eyes would shine with mischief. "Where am I?" she would whisper, and the water would carry her voice away. The reef was her playground, and she knew every twist and turn. 2

One sunny morning, Crystal saw a group of young fish swimming near the edge of the coral maze. Among them was Pip, a tiny orange fish with three white stripes and big, worried eyes. Pip's fins fluttered nervously. Next to Pip was Nibblet, a round lemon-yellow fish with curious green eyes, always getting distracted by pretty coral. Old Coral, the wise elder fish, swam slowly behind them, his deep purple body with silver streaks gliding through the water. 3

"Now, little ones," said Old Coral in a calm, rumbly voice, "stay close to me. The coral maze is no place to wander alone. Its passages twist and turn like a giant puzzle." Pip nodded and swam closer to Old Coral. But Nibblet was already gazing at a bright pink coral branch. "Ooh, look at that one!" Nibblet said, and darted away. Pip followed, trying to keep up. 4

Before long, Pip and Nibblet were deep inside the coral maze. The coral walls rose high on every side, and the water grew dim. Pip's large round eyes grew even wider. "Where did everyone go?" Pip whispered, fins trembling. Nibblet spun around, looking at the strange shapes. "I don't know," Nibblet said, voice small. "Everything looks the same!" They swam this way and that, but every path seemed to lead to another tangle of coral. 5

Crystal was hiding nearby, watching the two little fish. She saw their worried faces and heard their frightened whispers. She wanted to help, but she was so small and clear that they might not even see her. She darted out from her hiding spot and swam right up to Pip's nose. "Hello!" she said. Pip jumped. "Who said that?" Pip gasped, looking around. "Down here!" Crystal said, and her glass body sparkled in the dim light. 6

Pip and Nibblet stared at the shimmering shape. "You're almost invisible!" Nibblet said, eyes wide. "I'm Crystal," she said. "I know this maze better than anyone. I can help you find your way out." Pip's worried eyes brightened a little. "Really?" Pip asked. "Follow me," Crystal said, "and stay close. Some passages are very narrow." She turned and swam into a tiny gap between two coral branches. 7

Crystal led the way, her clear body slipping through the narrowest passages. Pip and Nibblet tried to follow, but the gaps were tight. "I'm stuck!" Pip cried, wiggling. Crystal came back and gently guided Pip's fins. "This way," she said. "The coral maze has secret paths that only a small, clear seahorse can find." She squeezed through a crack no wider than a leaf, and the little fish followed, one by one. 8

As they swam deeper, the coral grew thicker and the light faded. Nibblet got distracted again by a glowing blue coral. "Ooh, pretty!" Nibblet said, starting to drift away. "No, Nibblet!" Crystal called. "Stay with us. We're almost there." She swam in front of Nibblet and wiggled her tiny dorsal fin. "Follow my sparkle. See how the light bends through my glass body? That's your guide." Nibblet nodded and stayed close. 9

Finally, Crystal saw a bright opening ahead. "There's the way out!" she said. She led Pip and Nibblet through a final narrow tunnel. They burst into the open water, where sunlight streamed down in golden rays. Old Coral was waiting, his amber eyes filled with relief. "Pip! Nibblet!" he called. The two little fish swam to him as fast as their fins could go. "We're safe!" Pip said. "Crystal showed us the way!" 10

Old Coral turned to Crystal, who hovered nearby, her glass body shimmering. "You have a wonderful gift, little one," Old Coral said. "Your clear body lets you slip through the coral maze unseen, and you used it to bring our little ones home." Crystal felt a warm glow inside. "I only wanted to help," she said. "And you did," Old Coral replied. "A gift used to help others is the greatest treasure of all." 11

Pip and Nibblet swam around Crystal, their eyes shining with gratitude. "Thank you, Crystal!" Pip said. "You're the best hider and the best finder!" Nibblet added. Crystal giggled. "I'm glad I could help," she said. "But maybe next time, stay close to Old Coral." Pip and Nibblet promised they would. Old Coral smiled, his long trailing fins swaying gently. "Let's all go home together," he said. 12

From that day on, Crystal still loved to hide among the reefs, but she also kept a watchful eye on the young fish. She knew that her invisibility was not just for games—it was a special ability that could keep others safe. Whenever a little fish strayed too close to the coral maze, Crystal would appear, sparkling like a tiny star, and guide them back.
