Deep under the ocean lives Bubbles, an enormous but gentle sea monster with soft teal-blue skin, curly seaweed-green tufts on his head and round amber eyes. More than anything, he longs for a friend, yet every time he swims near the little seaside village, the sailors shout "Sea monster!" and row away in fear, leaving him lonely in the deep water.
Everything begins to change when a small fishing boat becomes trapped among sharp rocks. Bubbles, knowing the sailors are afraid of him, quietly pushes the boat free from below and slips away before anyone can see him. Only one person notices: Mira, an eight-year-old girl who watches the sea through her brass spyglass. Convinced that the monster is kind, she turns to Granny Pearl, whose old legends say the creature was always gentle, and then sets out to persuade the villagers to look beyond his size. Captain Ollie, who felt the unseen push that saved his boat, begins to wonder as well.
This picture-book tale is about judging others by their appearance and about the courage it takes to speak up for someone who cannot speak for himself. Through Mira's persistence and Bubbles's quiet kindness, young readers see how fear can turn into friendship when a community chooses to meet a stranger with openness rather than suspicion. It suits children at the early primary age, parents and teachers looking for a warm story about empathy, trust and belonging.

A Chapter from the Book
The Lonely Sea Monster Yavuz DEMİRKIRAN
Deep, deep under the ocean, where the water is cool and blue, lived a sea monster named Bubbles. He was enormous—taller than a fishing boat—with soft teal-blue skin and a lighter belly. Curly seaweed-green tufts grew on his head, and tiny barnacles dotted his shoulders. Bubbles had round, friendly amber eyes and a gentle, shy smile. More than anything in the wide ocean, he wanted a friend. 1
Bubbles loved to watch the little village by the sea. From far below, he could see fishing boats bobbing on the waves and children playing on the shore. He longed to join them, to laugh and splash and share stories. But whenever he swam near, the sailors would shout, “Sea monster!” and row away as fast as they could. Bubbles would sink back down, sad and lonely. 2
In the village lived a curious girl named Mira. She was eight years old, with warm brown skin, short curly black hair, and a gap-toothed grin. She always wore her yellow raincoat and red rubber boots, and carried a small brass spyglass on a string. Mira loved the ocean and spent hours watching the waves. She often wondered if the sea monster stories were true. 3
One day, a small fishing boat got caught among sharp rocks near the shore. Captain Ollie, a stout old sailor with a thick grey beard and a navy sweater, pulled on the oars with all his might. But the boat would not budge. The waves crashed, and the boat creaked. “We're stuck!” cried the captain. “And that sea monster might be near!” 4
Bubbles saw the trouble from under the water. His big heart thumped with worry. He knew the sailors were afraid of him, but he could not let them be hurt. Quietly, he swam closer, keeping himself hidden beneath the waves. With his strong, gentle fins, he pushed the boat from below. Slowly, the little boat slid free and floated into safe, calm water. 5
Captain Ollie felt the boat move and gasped. “We're free! But who helped us?” He looked around, but the sea was empty. Bubbles had already slipped away into the deep. The captain scratched his grey beard. “Strange,” he muttered. “Maybe the tide turned.” But he felt a shiver of wonder. Someone—or something—had saved them. 6
Mira had been watching from the cliff with her brass spyglass. She saw the boat stuck, and then she saw a huge, gentle shape under the water. It was teal-blue and had a shy smile. “It's the sea monster!” she whispered. “And he's kind!” She watched as Bubbles quietly pushed the boat to safety. Her heart glowed with excitement. 7
Mira ran to tell Granny Pearl, who lived in a little cottage by the shore. Granny Pearl was seventy-five years old, with a long silver braid and a lavender shawl. She wore a shell necklace and always carried a walking stick. “Granny,” Mira said, “I saw the sea monster, and he's not scary at all! He saved Captain Ollie's boat!” 8
Granny Pearl smiled, her green eyes twinkling. “Old sea legends say the monster is gentle,” she said. “But folks forgot how to look beyond his size.” She patted Mira's hand. “If you want the village to know the truth, you must show them. A special meeting by the sea might help.” Mira nodded. She had a plan. 9
Mira visited every house in the village. She told the fishermen and the children and the shopkeepers about Bubbles's kindness. Some people laughed. Some looked worried. But Captain Ollie listened carefully. “I felt something push my boat,” he said. “Maybe it was him.” Granny Pearl nodded wisely. “Let's meet this sea monster,” she said. “With kindness, not fear.” 10
The next morning, everyone gathered on the beach. Mira stood on a rock, her yellow raincoat flapping in the wind. “Bubbles!” she called. “Come out! We want to meet you!” The villagers waited, holding their breath. The waves lapped softly. Then, far out, a ripple appeared. Slowly, a huge teal-blue head rose above the water, with round amber eyes and a shy smile. 11
Bubbles blinked at the crowd. He was nervous. Would they scream and run away? But Mira waved her spyglass and shouted, “Hello, Bubbles! Thank you for saving the boat!” Captain Ollie stepped forward. “Aye,” he said, “I don't know how you did it, but you helped us. Thank you.” The villagers murmured. They saw his gentle eyes and kind smile. He didn't look scary at all. 12
Granny Pearl walked to the water's edge. “Welcome, Bubbles,” she said warmly. “We are sorry we misjudged you.” She held out a woven sea-grass bracelet. “Mira made this for you.” Bubbles took it gently and slipped it onto his wrist. His amber eyes shone with joy. The children laughed and splashed. The fishermen smiled. For the first time, Bubbles felt he belonged. 13
From that day on, Bubbles was part of the village. He helped the fishermen by pushing their boats to good fishing spots. He played hide-and-seek with the children, hiding behind rocks and making silly faces. Captain Ollie taught him to wave at passing ships. Granny Pearl told stories about him. And Mira became his best friend, always ready for an adventure. 14
The villagers learned that friendship begins when we look beyond appearances. Bubbles was big and strange, but his heart was full of kindness. The sailors were no longer afraid. They waved to him from their boats, and he waved back with his seaweed-green tufts bobbing. The ocean felt warmer and friendlier, all because one little girl and one gentle monster dared to be friends.
