Marina is a mermaid who lives in a cozy cave deep under the sea, lit by glowing jellyfish. Every night she combs her long teal hair and gazes at a picture of a mountain, wondering what snow feels like and what it would be like to stand on top of the world. Her friend Professor Bramble, an inventor with a twitching white beard, builds her a traveling chair with a glass dome and a bottom filled with seawater so she can breathe, and Marina sets off to see the mountains for herself.
On her journey the chair rolls through a flower-filled meadow, a deep green forest, and up into snowy heights where her ears pop and the air turns cool. Along the way she meets a curious rabbit, a tapping woodpecker, and a delicate deer, and each meeting becomes a gentle exchange: she tells them about coral reefs, singing whales, and glowing fish, and they teach her about bees, bark, moss, and ferns. In a snowy mountain village she is welcomed by Pip the marmot in his red knitted scarf and by Granny Hazel, who serves herbal tea and shows her edelweiss and gentians growing among the rocks.
When a sudden cold wind and heavy snow trap the chair, Marina stays calm and works together with Pip and Granny Hazel to get safely back to the warm cottage. The story is a quiet lesson in curiosity and friendship: two very different worlds can learn from each other, and asking questions about someone else's home is a way of making a new one. It suits young readers who enjoy gentle animal characters, snowy landscapes, and stories about discovery.

A Chapter from the Book
The Mermaid's Mountain Holiday Yavuz DEMİRKIRAN
Deep under the sea, in a cozy cave lit by glowing jellyfish, lived Marina the mermaid. She had long wavy teal hair with a braid, warm olive skin, and a shimmering blue-green tail. Every night, she combed her hair and stared at a picture of a mountain. "I wonder what snow feels like," she sighed. "And what it's like to stand on top of the world." 1
One sunny morning, Marina swam to the surface and found a note in a bottle. It was from her friend Professor Bramble, the inventor. "Come to the shore! I have a surprise," it said. Marina flicked her tail and raced through the waves. She couldn't wait to see what clever thing he had built this time. The water sparkled all around her. 2
On the beach, Professor Bramble stood beside a strange chair. It had a glass dome, brass fittings, and a soft seat. "It's a traveling chair for you!" he said, his white beard twitching with excitement. "I filled the bottom with seawater so you can breathe. The dome keeps you safe and cozy." Marina clapped her hands. "I can go to the mountains?" she cried. "Yes, indeed!" said the professor. 3
Marina climbed into the chair and wiggled her tail into the seawater. Professor Bramble handed her a map and a little bell. "Ring this if you need help," he said. "And remember, the chair moves on wheels and floats!" Marina rang the bell twice and laughed. "To the mountains!" she shouted. The chair rolled forward, and the adventure began. 4
The traveling chair rolled through a sunny meadow full of flowers. Marina saw bees buzzing and butterflies fluttering. "In the ocean, we have seahorses that swim like tiny dragons," she told a curious rabbit. The rabbit twitched its nose. "And we have fish that glow in the dark," Marina added. The rabbit thumped its foot, as if to say, "How wonderful!" 5
Next, the chair entered a deep green forest. Tall trees stretched up like seaweed, but these had leaves that whispered in the wind. Marina heard a woodpecker tapping. "Hello!" she called. The woodpecker peeked down. "What's a mermaid doing here?" it asked. Marina told it about coral reefs and singing whales. The woodpecker shared how it finds bugs in bark. They both learned something new. 6
The path climbed higher and higher. Marina's ears popped, and the air grew cool. She saw a deer with delicate antlers drinking from a stream. "Do you have deer in the sea?" the deer asked. Marina giggled. "No, but we have dolphins that leap and play!" She told the deer about underwater caves and shiny pearls. The deer told her about moss and ferns. The chair rolled on, leaving tiny wheel tracks in the soft earth. 7
As evening came, the chair reached a snowy mountain village. Little wooden houses puffed smoke from their chimneys. Snowflakes danced in the air. Marina pressed her nose to the glass dome. "It's beautiful!" she whispered. Just then, a small furry animal with a red knitted scarf popped out from behind a snowbank. "Hello! I'm Pip the marmot. Are you lost?" 8
Marina explained her journey. Pip's dark eyes grew wide. "A mermaid! I've never met one!" He scampered up to the chair. "I can show you around. I know every plant and animal here." Marina rang her bell in delight. "Lead the way!" Pip pointed with his fluffy tail. "First, let's visit Granny Hazel. She makes the best herbal tea in the village." 9
Granny Hazel welcomed them into her warm cottage. She wore a forest-green shawl and leaned on a wooden walking stick. "A mermaid! What a treat!" she said, her silver bun bobbing. Marina told her about life under the sea—the colorful fish, the swaying kelp, and the songs of whales. Granny Hazel listened with a smile. "And here, we have edelweiss that grows on rocky peaks," she said. 10
The next morning, Pip took Marina to see the alpine flowers. "These are gentians," he said, pointing to bright blue blossoms. "And those are edelweiss, with fuzzy white petals." Marina compared them to sea anemones and starfish. She told Pip how sea stars can regrow their arms. Pip taught her how marmots whistle to warn friends. They laughed at how different their worlds were, yet how similar their curiosity. 11
Suddenly, a cold wind blew, and snow began to fall fast. "We should head back!" Pip squeaked. But the path was slippery, and the chair's wheels spun in the snow. Marina didn't panic. "Let's work together," she said. She rocked the chair while Pip pushed from behind. Granny Hazel appeared with her walking stick and cleared a path. Soon, they were safe and warm inside her cottage. 12
That evening, the village gathered around a crackling fire. Marina told stories of underwater adventures—of giant squids and sunken ships. The villagers told her about mountain life— of bears hibernating and eagles soaring. Pip wore his red scarf proudly and shared how he helped Marina. Everyone agreed that new friends make the world feel bigger and brighter. 13
When it was time to go, Marina hugged Pip and Granny Hazel. "I'll never forget your snowy mountains," she said. Pip gave her a tiny edelweiss. "And I'll never forget your ocean stories," he replied. Professor Bramble's chair rolled back down the mountain, leaving a trail of happy memories. Marina waved until the village was just a speck in the distance.
