Deep in the sparkling blue sea lives Pearl, a young mermaid with warm tan skin, long wavy coral-pink hair and a shimmering teal tail. She spends her days exploring the ocean with her friend Old Turtle Tibbs, who wears round wire spectacles and carries a cracked shell covered in barnacles. When Pearl peeks through the broken window of an old shipwreck, she finds shiny coins, a rusty anchor and a strange purple-and-gold object with a curved shell handle. Tibbs recognises it as an enchanted umbrella, and when Pearl presses its little button, big rainbow-coloured bubbles float out instead of rain.
Soon the umbrella becomes the favourite toy in the reef. Small creatures take turns riding inside the bubbles, safe and dry, and a tiny seahorse named Pip and his mother Coral are among the first to try it. Then one afternoon the sky turns dark grey, the wind howls and a wild storm churns the water into a swirling mess. When Coral's babies are scattered and Pip is caught in a whirlpool, Pearl must decide whether her umbrella is only a game or something more.
The story follows Pearl as she uses her discovery to help others in real danger, and it carries a simple lesson for young readers: the best kind of magic is the kind you use to help someone else. Told in short, gentle chapters with vivid sea imagery, the tale is suited to children at the early reading stage and to parents or teachers looking for a warm bedtime story about courage, kindness and quick thinking.

A Chapter from the Book
The Mermaid's Umbrella Yavuz DEMİRKIRAN
Deep down in the sparkling blue sea, where sunbeams danced on the waves, lived a young mermaid named Pearl. She had warm tan skin, long wavy coral-pink hair, and a shimmering teal tail with silver scales. Pearl loved to explore the ocean with her friend Old Turtle Tibbs. He wore round wire spectacles and had a cracked shell with barnacles. 'The sea is full of surprises,' he said with a wise smile. 1
One sunny morning, Pearl swam near an old shipwreck covered in seaweed. She peeked through a broken window and saw treasures scattered on the sandy floor. There were shiny coins, a rusty anchor, and a strange purple-and-gold object with a curved shell handle. 'What could that be?' Pearl wondered. She carefully picked it up and tucked it under her arm. 2
Pearl brought the mysterious object to Old Turtle Tibbs. He adjusted his spectacles and studied it closely. 'That's an umbrella,' he said. 'But this one is enchanted. I can feel the magic in its handle.' Pearl's turquoise eyes grew wide. 'What does it do?' she asked. Tibbs smiled. 'Open it and see,' he said. 'But be careful—magic can be surprising.' 3
Pearl held the umbrella by its shell handle and pressed the little button. Whoosh! The umbrella popped open, and out floated big, shiny bubbles. They shimmered in rainbow colors and drifted gently upward. Pearl giggled as a bubble bounced off her nose. 'Look at them all!' she cried. The bubbles were so big that small fish could swim right inside. 4
A tiny seahorse named Pip darted out from behind a coral bush. He had pale yellow stripes and big curious eyes. 'Can I try?' he asked. Pearl nodded and scooped him into a bubble. Pip laughed as the bubble floated around. 'This is fun!' he squealed. His mother, Coral, watched with a gentle smile. She carried a woven kelp satchel for her babies. 'What a wonderful invention,' she said. 5
From that day on, Pearl's umbrella became the favorite toy in the reef. Little creatures took turns riding in the bubbles, safe and dry. The bubbles kept them snug even when the water grew choppy. 'You're like a bubble bus driver,' joked a clownfish. Pearl grinned. 'I'm glad it helps,' she said. Old Turtle Tibbs watched proudly from a distance. 6
But one afternoon, the sky above the ocean turned dark gray. The wind howled, and the waves grew tall and wild. A big storm was coming! The sea swirled and churned, tossing seaweed and shells everywhere. 'Everyone, find shelter!' called Old Turtle Tibbs. Pearl held her umbrella tight. She knew she had to be brave. 7
The storm raged on, and the water became a swirling mess. Pearl's heart pounded as she looked around for anyone in trouble. Suddenly, she heard a tiny cry. 'Help! Help!' It was Coral the seahorse, struggling against the strong current. Her babies were scattered, and little Pip was nowhere to be seen. 'Hold on!' Pearl shouted. 8
Pearl swam as fast as her teal tail could carry her. The water pushed and pulled, but she held her umbrella close. She reached Coral and her family, who were clinging to a piece of drifting kelp. 'Where's Pip?' asked Coral, her voice trembling. Pearl looked around and spotted the tiny seahorse spinning in a whirlpool. 'I'll get him!' she promised. 9
Pearl opened her umbrella wide, and the biggest, shiniest bubbles poured out. They wrapped around the seahorses like soft, round blankets. Coral and her babies floated safely inside, their tiny fins fluttering. Pearl dove toward Pip and scooped him into a bubble just in time. 'Got you!' she said. Pip's big eyes blinked with relief. 10
With the seahorses tucked in bubbles, Pearl swam against the storm. The bubbles bobbed and bounced, but they kept the little family safe and dry. Old Turtle Tibbs cheered from a distance. 'You're doing it, Pearl!' he called. Pearl's coral-pink hair swirled around her face, but she didn't stop. She led the bubbles gently through the rough water. 11
Finally, the storm began to calm. The waves grew smaller, and the sky turned a soft blue. Pearl guided the bubbles to a quiet cove filled with colorful coral. She popped each bubble, and the seahorses tumbled out, giggling. 'You saved us!' cried Coral, hugging her babies. Pip swam right up to Pearl and gave her a tiny high-five with his snout. 12
The whole reef came out to celebrate. Fish, crabs, and even shy octopuses gathered around Pearl. 'Hooray for Pearl and her wonderful umbrella!' they cheered. Old Turtle Tibbs gave her a proud nod. 'You used your invention to help others,' he said. 'That's the best kind of magic.' Pearl blushed and hugged her purple-and-gold umbrella. 13
From that day on, Pearl's umbrella was always ready for adventure. She and Pip became best friends, and they often explored the reef together. The bubbles were not just for fun— they were for safety and kindness. Pearl learned that even a small idea, like an umbrella that makes bubbles, can make a big difference when you share it with others. 14
The mermaid and her friends lived happily in the sparkling sea. Pearl kept her seaweed bracelet and pearl necklace as a reminder of the day she helped the seahorses. And whenever a storm came, the little creatures knew they could count on Pearl and her enchanted umbrella. The bubbles would always be there to keep them safe.
