A Chapter from the Book
The Starship Library Yavuz DEMİRKIRAN
High above the clouds, a silver spaceship zoomed past the stars. It was called the Starship Library, and it carried thousands of books to children on every planet. Inside, a young librarian named Mira checked the shelves. Her curly black hair bounced in two puffs as she hurried. She wore a teal jumper with a book badge and carried an orange satchel for rare books. Today, a very important delivery waited. 1
Captain Orin stood at the control deck, his navy flight jacket gleaming with gold star patches. He smiled at Mira through his round glasses. "Ready for your first big delivery?" he asked. Mira nodded, her hazel eyes sparkling. "The colony on Planet Nimbus needs rare books before their school year starts," she said. "And we must get them there on time!" 2
Mira's little robot friend, Pip, rolled up beside her. He was knee-high and round, with cream-white body and sky-blue panels. His single amber eye glowed warmly. "I've sorted all the books," Pip chirped. "The rare ones are in your orange satchel, Mira!" Mira patted his round head. "Thanks, Pip! Let's fly!" The Starship Library hummed and zoomed toward Planet Nimbus. 3
But space was full of surprises. A shower of tiny space rocks bounced off the ship's shield. "Hold on!" cried Captain Orin. Mira gripped the rail, her freckles standing out on her worried face. Pip wobbled but kept the books safe. "No damage!" he reported. Mira took a deep breath. "We can do this," she said. "Those books have to reach the children!" 4
On Planet Nimbus, Elder Sana waited by the schoolhouse. She was short and sturdy, with a long silver braid and a rust-red shawl. Her brown eyes crinkled with worry. "The school year begins tomorrow," she said to the villagers. "Without those rare books, we cannot open our school." The children looked up at the sky, hoping to see the Starship Library. 5
Ahead, a giant planet blocked the way. "We must go around," said Captain Orin. "But that will take too long!" Mira bit her lip. Then she had an idea. "Pip, can you find a shortcut through the asteroid belt?" Pip's amber eye blinked. "I can try!" He projected a map. "There's a safe path, but it's very narrow." Mira smiled. "Let's take it!" 6
The Starship Library zipped through the rocky path. Mira steered carefully while Pip called out directions. "Left! Right! Watch out!" Captain Orin watched proudly. At last, they flew out of the asteroid belt. Mira cheered. "We made it!" But then the ship's engine sputtered. "Uh-oh," said Pip. "We need to fix the engine, and fast!" 7
Mira and Pip hurried to the engine room. Wires and gears were everywhere. "Can you fix it?" Mira asked. Pip's bookshaped chest light flickered. "I know a little about engines," he said. "But I need your help." Together, they tightened bolts and connected wires. Captain Orin called over the speaker, "How's it going?" Mira wiped her forehead. "Almost there!" 8
Finally, the engine hummed back to life. "Great teamwork!" said Captain Orin. Mira grinned. "We couldn't have done it without Pip." Pip's amber eye glowed brighter. "And we couldn't have done it without you, Mira!" They shook hands, laughing. The Starship Library zoomed onward, faster than before. The rare books were safe in Mira's orange satchel. 9
At last, Planet Nimbus appeared, a swirl of green and blue. Mira saw the colony below. "Look!" she pointed. "There's the school!" Captain Orin guided the ship to land gently. The ramp lowered, and Mira stepped out with her satchel. Elder Sana hurried over, her silver braid swinging. "You made it!" she cried. "Just in time!" 10
Mira handed the rare books to Elder Sana. "These are for your school," she said. The children gathered around, their eyes wide with wonder. "Real books from other planets!" they whispered. Elder Sana smiled warmly. "Thank you, Mira. You have brought us knowledge and hope." Mira blushed. "I'm just glad we could help." 11
The next morning, the whole colony gathered for the school opening. Elder Sana stood on the steps, holding a rare book. "Today, we open our school because of a brave young librarian and her friends," she said. The children clapped and cheered. Mira waved from the front row, Pip beside her. "Books can travel very far," she said, "but they always bring people together." 12
Captain Orin announced that the Starship Library would visit every month. The children cheered even louder. They hugged Mira and Pip. "We'll be your friends forever," said a little girl. Mira's hazel eyes sparkled with happy tears. "And I'll bring more books next time," she promised. The colony felt like one big happy community. 13
As the Starship Library lifted off, Mira looked out the window. The colony grew smaller and smaller. "We did it, Pip," she said. "We delivered the books and helped open a school." Pip's amber eye twinkled. "And we made new friends," he said. Captain Orin smiled from the cockpit. "That's what the Starship Library is all about." 14
Back home, Mira told everyone about her adventure. "Books connect planets and people," she said. "They share ideas and make us all part of one big community." The children listened, dreaming of faraway worlds. And the Starship Library sailed on, carrying stories to every corner of space. 15
