In a small theatre at the edge of town, where the curtains are red and the seats are velvet, Madame Lumina lights the lamps every evening and cares for a very special puppet. Crystal is made of clear, sparkling crystal, wears a teal ribbon scarf and tiny silver slippers, and loves to dance more than anything. Yet whenever she imagines the big audience watching her, her clear knees wobble and a cold, shivery feeling runs through her body. The story follows Crystal as she prepares for her first performance on the real stage, helped by two small friends: Pip the firefly, whose golden tail can light the stage, and Rosie the ribbon mouse, who sews a lucky star onto Crystal's scarf and promises to clap the loudest.

Every afternoon Crystal practices her twirls and leaps while Madame Lumina adjusts the rose, amber and blue lights so they dance across the floor. She slips, tumbles into a pile of curtains and worries that her steps are all wobbly, but each day she tries the spin again. When the big night finally arrives and the theatre fills with people, Crystal freezes at her first wobbling step, then remembers the afternoons of practice and whispers to herself that practice makes brave. Young readers will follow her from fear to confidence as the coloured lights turn her clear body into a rainbow.

The book is a gentle story about practice, courage and friendship, showing how small daily efforts and the support of friends can help a child face an audience, or any new challenge. It suits young children who enjoy theatre settings, talking animal companions and stories about overcoming stage fright, and it offers parents and teachers a warm way to talk about trying again after a mistake.

A Chapter from the Book

The Crystal Puppet Yavuz DEMİRKIRAN

In a little theatre at the edge of town, the curtains were red and the seats were velvet. Every evening, Madame Lumina lit the lamps with a soft click. She wore a violet coat with gold buttons and a lantern pendant that swayed as she walked. 'Light is magic,' she whispered, 'especially for a puppet made of crystal.' 1

Crystal was a puppet of clear, sparkling crystal, with a teal ribbon scarf and tiny silver slippers. Her dark blue bead eyes looked at the stage, and her round head tilted. She loved to dance, but when she thought of the big audience, her clear knees wobbled. 'What if I trip?' she whispered. Her crystal body tingled with a cold, shivery feeling. 2

Pip the firefly zipped down and landed on her hand. His golden tail glowed warmly, and his tiny red cap sat crooked. 'Don't worry,' he buzzed. 'I'll light the stage for you every night.' Rosie the ribbon mouse peeked out from a costume box, her yellow apron full of scraps. 'And I'll clap the loudest!' she squeaked, her pink ears twitching. 3

Every afternoon, Crystal practiced her twirls and leaps on the empty stage. Madame Lumina adjusted the colored lights— rose, amber, and blue—so they danced across the floor. 'Let's try the spin again,' she said gently. Crystal spun, but her foot slipped, and she tumbled into a soft pile of curtains. 'Oh dear,' she sighed. 'My steps are all wobbly.' 4

Pip lit the stage with a warm golden glow. 'Try again,' he cheered, fluttering his translucent wings. Rosie sewed a tiny star on Crystal's scarf for luck. 'You can do it!' she called, clapping her paws. Crystal took a deep breath and tried the spin once more. This time, she wobbled but stayed on her feet. 'Almost!' laughed Madame Lumina. 5

Day after day, Crystal practiced. The colored lights turned her clear body into soft rainbows. When she leaped, the lights made her look like a sparkling fountain. When she twirled, her crystal limbs caught the colors and sent them swirling. 'Look at you shine!' said Pip, his amber eyes wide. Crystal smiled, but her heart still fluttered at the thought of the big night. 6

The big night arrived, and the theatre filled with people. Crystal peeked from behind the curtain, and her clear body trembled. 'What if they laugh?' she whispered. Pip landed on her shoulder. 'We're right here,' he said. Rosie held up a tiny sign that said 'You can do it!' Madame Lumina smiled and turned the lights to a soft, welcoming glow. 7

Crystal stepped onto the stage, and the lights struck her clear body. Suddenly, she wasn't just a puppet—she was a rainbow! Colors swirled inside her, and her teal scarf glowed. But her first step wobbled, and she froze. The audience went quiet. 'Practice makes brave,' she whispered to herself, remembering all those afternoons. She took another step. 8

Pip flew up and lit the stage with his golden tail. Rosie clapped loudly from the wings. Madame Lumina adjusted a blue light, and Crystal's crystal body sparkled. Slowly, she began to dance. Her steps were small at first, then bigger. The lights turned her twirls into spinning stars and her leaps into flying comets. The audience gasped with delight. 9

Crystal forgot to be scared. She danced with all her heart, and the colored lights played through her clear body. She was a fountain of light, a swirling rainbow, a dancing star. Pip zoomed around her, his glow adding golden sparkles. Rosie wiped a happy tear from her eye. Madame Lumina beamed, her green eyes twinkling behind her spectacles. 10

When the dance ended, the audience clapped and cheered. Crystal bowed, and her crystal body shimmered with every color. 'You were wonderful!' cried Rosie, running onto the stage. Pip did a happy loop in the air. Madame Lumina knelt down. 'You see?' she said softly. 'Practice made you brave, and bravery let your light shine.' 11

Crystal hugged her friends. 'I couldn't have done it without you,' she said. 'You lit the stage, you clapped, and you taught me about light.' Madame Lumina smiled. 'And you taught yourself to be brave,' she said. 'Every time you practiced, you grew a little braver. Now your light shines for everyone to see.' 12

From that night on, Crystal danced every evening under the colored lights. She still practiced every day, because practice made her feel strong. Pip and Rosie cheered from the wings, and Madame Lumina painted the stage with rainbows. Crystal's clear body sparkled with many colors, and she danced happily for everyone to see. 13

Children came from all around to watch the crystal puppet dance. They pointed at the rainbow shapes swirling inside her. 'How do you do that?' asked a little girl. Crystal smiled. 'I practice every day,' she said. 'And I remember that being brave helps me shine.' The little girl nodded and promised to practice her own dancing too. 14

One evening, after the show, Crystal sat on the stage with her friends. The lights were dim, and the theatre was quiet. 'I used to be so scared,' she said. 'Now I know that practice makes me brave.' Pip glowed softly. 'And brave makes you shine,' he added. Rosie yawned in her yellow apron. 'And shine makes everyone happy,' she said.
