The Griffin's Lost Feather

The Griffin's Lost Feather

Yavuz DEMİRKIRAN

The Griffin's Lost Feather is a children's fairy tale by Yavuz DEMİRKIRAN that follows a young griffin who loses one of its precious feathers and sets out to find it. Along the way, the story introduces young readers to a world of mythical creatures, gentle challenges, and the small discoveries that come with looking carefully at the world around you. The tale moves at a pace suited to bedtime reading and early independent reading, with a clear narrative line that children can follow without losing track of what is happening.

Through the griffin's search, the book touches on themes children recognise from their own lives: losing something important, asking others for help, and learning that patience and curiosity often lead to unexpected answers. Each encounter in the story offers a small lesson about kindness, perseverance, and the value of friendship, presented through simple situations rather than heavy moralising. The fairy-tale setting gives these ideas a playful distance that makes them easy for a child to consider.

The book is intended for young readers roughly aged five to nine, as well as for parents, grandparents, and teachers who read aloud to children. Its short chapters and vivid imagery make it a natural choice for shared reading at home or in a classroom, and it can serve as a starting point for conversations about helping others and dealing with small disappointments. Readers who enjoy traditional fairy tales with animal and mythical characters will find familiar ground here, presented in a warm and accessible style.

A Chapter from the Book

The Griffin's Lost Feather Yavuz DEMİRKIRAN

Arlo was a small griffin cub with a lion's soft golden body and tiny amber wings. He lived in a cozy cave high on a windy hill. Every morning, he wore his green satchel and explored the meadows below. His grandmother, Mara, watched him with warm, wise eyes. She had given him a beautiful feather, long and shimmering, and he kept it safe in his satchel. 1

The feather was Arlo's greatest treasure. Grandmother Mara said it held her magical wisdom. When he held it, he felt brave and loved. He carried it everywhere, tucked snugly in his satchel. One sunny day, while chasing butterflies, Arlo felt a gust of wind. The satchel bounced, and the feather floated away. Arlo gasped. The feather was gone! 2

Arlo searched the meadow, but the feather was nowhere. His big amber eyes filled with tears. He remembered Grandmother Mara's words: 'Courage means trying even when you're scared.' He took a deep breath and decided to find the feather. First, he would search the forest. He flapped his small wings and headed toward the tall, green trees. 3

In the forest, Arlo met a tiny squirrel named Pip. Pip wore a little acorn-cap hat and had a bushy tail. 'Have you seen a shiny feather?' Arlo asked. Pip shook his head. 'No, but I'll help you look!' Pip chattered cheerfully. They searched under bushes and behind rocks. Arlo remembered Grandmother's lesson about kindness. He shared his berries with Pip, and they became friends. 4

Pip led Arlo to a tall oak tree. 'Feathers often get stuck in branches,' Pip said. Arlo climbed, but his small claws slipped. He felt scared. Then he remembered: 'Patience means trying again.' He took a breath and climbed slowly. At the top, he found a blue jay's nest, but no feather. 'Don't give up!' Pip called. Arlo smiled, grateful for his friend. 5

Next, they searched the cliffs. The wind blew hard, and Arlo's wings trembled. 'Courage means being brave even when you're small,' he whispered. He peered into rocky crevices and called out for the feather. Pip checked tiny holes. They found a lost mitten and a shiny pebble, but no feather. Arlo's heart sank. 'Maybe it's gone forever,' he said sadly. 6

Pip patted Arlo's wing. 'Let's try the mountain caves,' he suggested. 'Grandmother Mara once told me that caves hold secrets.' Arlo nodded. They walked until they reached a dark cave entrance. Arlo felt a shiver. 'Kindness means helping others,' he remembered. He lit a small torch and stepped inside, with Pip close behind. 7

Inside the cave, it was cool and quiet. Water dripped from the ceiling. Arlo called, 'Feather, are you here?' Suddenly, a soft glow caught his eye. There, on a ledge, was a shimmering feather! But it was stuck under a rock. Arlo tugged gently. 'Patience,' he reminded himself. He wiggled the rock until it loosened. The feather was free! 8

Arlo held the feather close. It sparkled in the torchlight. 'You found it!' Pip cheered. Arlo hugged his friend. 'Thank you for helping me,' he said. 'I couldn't have done it without you.' They walked out of the cave into the warm sunshine. Arlo felt proud and happy. He had been brave, kind, and patient, just like Grandmother Mara taught him. 9

On the way home, Arlo looked at the feather. He remembered all the times Grandmother Mara had told him stories. The feather was beautiful, but it was more than a pretty thing. It held her love and wisdom. He realized that the feather's magic was in the memories they shared. He would always carry those memories in his heart, even without the feather. 10

When Arlo reached the cave, Grandmother Mara was waiting. 'You found your feather!' she said, her eyes twinkling. Arlo nodded. 'But I learned something important,' he said. 'The feather is special because of you and the stories you tell. The memories are the real magic.' Grandmother Mara smiled and wrapped her wing around him. 'You are wise beyond your years, little one.' 11

Arlo placed the feather gently in his satchel. He knew he would always treasure it, but even more, he would treasure the time spent with his grandmother. That night, they sat by the fire, and she told him a new story about a brave griffin cub who learned that memories matter more than possessions. Arlo listened, feeling warm and loved. 12

The next morning, Arlo woke with a happy heart. He visited Pip in the forest and brought him a gift: a shiny acorn for his hat. 'For your kindness,' Arlo said. Pip chattered with delight. They played together among the trees, and Arlo felt grateful for his friend. He knew that courage, kindness, and patience had brought him not only the feather but also a true friend. 13

Arlo returned home and sat beside Grandmother Mara. 'Tell me about the feather again,' he asked. She smiled and said, 'The feather is a reminder of our family's love. It holds the memory of all the griffins who came before you. Their courage, kindness, and patience live on in you.' Arlo looked at the feather and felt a deep connection to his family. 14

From that day on, Arlo wore the feather proudly, but he no longer worried about losing it. He knew that the real magic was inside him: the lessons his grandmother taught and the memories they made together. He felt brave, kind, and patient. And he knew that no matter what, his family's love would always be with him.
