The Invisible Umbrella is a children's fairy tale by Yavuz Demirkıran that invites young readers into a gentle, imaginative world where an ordinary object turns out to hold extraordinary possibilities. At the heart of the story is a magical umbrella that cannot be seen but can still shelter, guide, and protect those who believe in it. Through this simple yet evocative image, the tale explores themes of trust, courage, and the quiet kinds of help that often go unnoticed in everyday life.
As the story unfolds, children follow characters who must learn to rely on something they cannot see with their eyes but can feel through their choices and relationships. The narrative encourages readers to think about kindness, family bonds, and the value of facing small fears with patience and imagination. The fairy-tale setting keeps the tone warm and accessible, while the central metaphor of the invisible umbrella offers room for reflection on what truly keeps us safe.
Written for young readers and for adults who read aloud to them, this book works well as a bedtime story or a classroom read. It suits children beginning to explore longer narratives and anyone who enjoys tales that blend fantasy with simple, heartfelt lessons. Parents, teachers, and caregivers will find in it an opening for conversations about trust and the unseen support that surrounds us.

The Invisible Umbrella Yavuz DEMİRKIRAN
On a rainy Tuesday, Nora found a shop she had never seen before. It squeezed between the bakery and the shoe store, with a dusty window and a door that said, "Pibb's Forgotten Things." She pushed it open, and a little bell went ting-a-ling. Inside, the air smelled like old books and peppermint. An old man in a green apron looked up and smiled. 1
Mr. Pibb wore small round glasses and had wispy white hair. "Welcome, welcome," he said, squinting kindly. "I've been waiting for someone small and quick." Nora tilted her head. "Me?" she asked. He nodded and shuffled to a shelf. "I have just the thing for a girl in a yellow raincoat." He reached into a box and pulled out—nothing. Nora blinked. 2
"It's an invisible umbrella," Mr. Pibb said. "You can't see it, but you can feel the handle." Nora reached out and felt smooth wood with a carved spiral. A small blue ribbon was tied to it. "It opens when someone nearby needs protection," he whispered. "Just be kind, and it will do the rest." Nora wasn't sure she believed him, but she thanked him and took it home. 3
The next morning, rain pattered on the roof. Nora was walking to school when she heard tiny chirps. Three baby birds huddled in a nest that had fallen from a tree. The wind blew cold and wet. Suddenly, the wooden handle grew warm in her hand. A faint shimmer appeared above the nest, and raindrops slid off invisible curves. The birds stayed dry and warm. Nora gasped. "It's real!" 4
At the park, Nora saw a kite stuck high in a tree. A boy named Leo tugged the string, but the kite wouldn't budge. "It's my favorite," he said sadly. Nora held up her umbrella handle. She felt a gentle tug, and the invisible umbrella floated up. Its shimmering edge caught the kite, and it drifted down softly. Leo's eyes went wide. "How did you do that?" Nora just smiled. 5
On Saturday, a noisy parade marched down Main Street. Drums banged and horns blared. Nora was watching when she spotted a tiny cream puppy with floppy brown ears. It trembled under a bench, its red collar shaking. The parade grew louder. The puppy whimpered and tried to hide. Nora's umbrella handle tingled. She knew just what to do. 6
Nora dashed to the bench and knelt down. "It's okay, little one," she said softly. The invisible umbrella opened above them, and the shimmer made a quiet, safe bubble. The puppy stopped shaking and licked her hand. Its one white paw rested on her knee. "I've got you," Nora whispered. The parade passed by, and the puppy felt safe. 7
After the parade, Nora looked for the puppy's owner. A silver tag on its collar said "Pip." She walked up and down the street, calling, "Pip! Pip!" Finally, a woman with a stroller waved. "You found him!" she cried. "Thank you!" Pip wagged his tail. Nora felt warm inside, like the umbrella had given her a hug. She waved goodbye and headed home. 8
The next day, Nora wanted to show her friend Maya the umbrella's magic. She held up the handle and said, "Open!" But nothing happened. She tried again. "Open, please!" The handle stayed cold. Nora frowned. "Why won't it work?" she muttered. She stomped her blue rubber boots. The umbrella stayed invisible and still. 9
Nora sat on a bench, feeling cross. "It opened for birds and kites and puppies," she said. "Why not for me?" Just then, she saw a little girl crying near the fountain. Her paper boat had floated out of reach. Nora forgot her grumpy mood. She reached out with the umbrella handle, and a shimmer gently nudged the boat back to shore. The girl clapped. "Thank you!" 10
Nora stared at the handle. It had opened without her even asking. Suddenly, she understood. The umbrella didn't open for commands. It opened for kindness. When she helped others, its magic worked. When she wanted a show, it stayed still. "You're a clever umbrella," she whispered. The blue ribbon fluttered, as if it agreed. 11
From that day on, Nora carried the umbrella everywhere. She didn't try to make it open. Instead, she looked for people who needed help. She sheltered a cat from a sprinkler. She caught a falling book. She shared her snack with a hungry squirrel. Each time, the umbrella shimmered and kept everyone safe. Nora's days felt brighter and safer too. 12
One afternoon, a storm rolled in. Thunder rumbled and rain poured. Nora was far from home. She held up the handle, and the invisible umbrella opened wide. But then she saw a family with no umbrella. "Come under!" she called. They squeezed together, and the umbrella grew bigger to cover them all. Everyone laughed, warm and dry, until the storm passed. 13
When Nora finally got home, she hugged the umbrella handle. "Thank you," she said. The blue ribbon danced. She realized that helping others without expecting a reward was its own kind of magic. It made her feel strong and happy. And the invisible umbrella had been there all along, teaching her that kindness is the best protection. 14
Nora visited Mr. Pibb's shop to tell him everything. He listened and smiled. "You've learned its secret," he said. "The umbrella protects those who protect others." He gave her a small box of peppermints. "For the kindest girl in a yellow raincoat." Nora beamed, the gap between her front teeth showing. She promised to visit again.
