Drift Island floats in a warm blue sea, a peaceful home where people grow fruit and fish in clear water. Lily, a curious ten-year-old with a brass compass and a mustard-yellow raincoat, loves to explore every inch of it. But the island holds a strange secret: whenever the islanders argue, the whole island drifts to a new spot in the ocean. One morning, the fishing boats return to find the harbor gone—the island has moved miles away. Lily notices that the island only moves when people argue and sets out to uncover the truth.
With the help of Grandpa Sol, the oldest islander, and her parrot Pip, Lily tests her idea. When the islanders laugh and share stories, the island stays still; when they argue, it drifts. A big argument about building a new stone harbor causes the island to drift faster, heading toward the dangerous Dark Rocks. Lily must convince everyone to stop fighting and listen to each other before it's too late.
This children's fairy tale teaches the importance of communication, empathy, and teamwork. Through Lily's adventure, young readers learn that sharing worries and finding fair solutions together can overcome conflicts. The story is perfect for children aged 6-10 and for parents and teachers looking for a gentle way to discuss feelings and cooperation.

A Chapter from the Book
The Island That Moved Yavuz DEMİRKIRAN
Drift Island floated in the warm blue sea like a green jewel. Its people lived peacefully, growing fruit and fishing in the clear water. Lily, a curious ten-year-old with warm brown skin and two curly puffs of black hair, loved to explore every inch of it. She wore her mustard-yellow raincoat and carried a brass compass on a cord around her neck, always ready for adventure. 1
But Drift Island had a strange secret. Every time the islanders had a big argument, the whole island moved to a new spot in the ocean! One morning, the fishing boats returned to find the harbor gone. The island had drifted miles away. The people blamed mysterious currents and scratched their heads. Lily watched closely, her hazel eyes wide with wonder. 2
Lily asked Grandpa Sol, the oldest islander, about the drifting. He had deep brown skin, a thick white beard, and a faded anchor tattoo on his arm. He leaned on his wooden walking stick and said, 'I've seen the island move many times, little one. But I never knew why.' Lily's parrot, Pip, perched on her shoulder. The tiny turquoise bird with a red scarf chirped, 'Why? Why? Why?' 3
That day, a big argument erupted. Mira, the harbor builder, wanted to build a new stone harbor. She wore a red headscarf and a tool belt jingling with hammers. 'It will be strong and safe!' she declared. But the fishers shouted, 'No! It will ruin our fishing spots!' Their voices grew loud and angry. Lily felt the ground tremble beneath her red rubber boots. 4
As the argument continued, the island began to drift! Slowly at first, then faster. The people gasped as their homes slid past familiar rocks. Lily ran to the edge and watched the water swirl. 'The island is moving!' she cried. Pip flapped his wings and squawked, 'Moving! Moving!' Lily noticed something strange: the island only moved when people argued. 5
Lily decided to test her idea. She watched the islanders closely. When they laughed and shared stories, the island stayed still. When they argued about little things, it drifted a little. She told Grandpa Sol, 'I think the island moves because of our feelings!' He nodded slowly. 'That would explain a lot,' he said, stroking his white beard. 'But how can we stop it?' 6
Meanwhile, the argument about the harbor grew worse. Mira and the fishers shouted at each other. Some people took sides. The island drifted faster and faster, heading toward the Dark Rocks, a dangerous place full of sharp stones and swirling water. Lily's heart pounded. She knew she had to do something before it was too late. 7
Lily called out, 'Everyone, listen! The island moves because we argue! We must stop fighting!' But no one heard her over the noise. Pip flew up and screeched, 'Stop! Stop!' Still, the people argued. Lily felt the island lurch. She had to act quickly. She ran to Grandpa Sol and said, 'We need a meeting. Everyone must share their worries.' He agreed and helped her gather the islanders. 8
Grandpa Sol banged his walking stick on the ground. 'Quiet!' he called. 'Lily has something to say.' The people fell silent. Lily stood on a rock, her yellow raincoat bright against the gray sky. 'The island drifts because of our arguments,' she said. 'If we want to stay safe, we must talk and listen.' The islanders looked at each other, surprised and ashamed. 9
Mira stepped forward, her red headscarf fluttering. 'I only wanted a safe harbor for the boats,' she said. 'I didn't mean to cause trouble.' The fishers nodded. 'We were worried about our fishing spots,' one said. 'We should have talked.' Lily smiled. 'Let's share our worries and find a fair solution together.' The island slowed its drift just a little. 10
Everyone sat in a circle. Grandpa Sol said, 'Let's listen to each other.' Mira explained her plans for the harbor. The fishers shared their fears. Others talked about their needs. Lily listened carefully, her compass warm in her hand. Pip hopped from shoulder to shoulder, chirping, 'Talk, talk!' The island drifted slower and slower as the voices grew calm and kind. 11
Together, the islanders came up with a plan. They would build a small harbor on one side of the island, away from the fishing spots. Mira would use stone from the island, and the fishers would help choose the spot. Everyone agreed. 'Teamwork!' squawked Pip. The island gave a little shudder and then stopped drifting. It floated steady in the calm sea. 12
The islanders worked side by side. Mira measured and hammered, while the fishers hauled stones. Lily carried water and helped wherever she could. Grandpa Sol watched with a smile. 'Trust and teamwork,' he said, 'keep our home safe and steady.' The island stayed put, and the people felt proud of what they had done together. 13
When the new harbor was finished, the islanders held a big feast. They laughed and sang and shared stories. Lily looked around at her friends. She saw Mira and the fishers talking happily. She saw Grandpa Sol telling tales to the children. The island was peaceful again, and it hadn't moved an inch. 14
Lily stood on a hill with Pip on her shoulder. She held her brass compass and smiled. 'We did it,' she whispered. Pip nuzzled her cheek. 'Did it! Did it!' he chirped. The sun set over the calm sea, and Drift Island stayed right where it belonged. The people had learned that talking and listening keep their home safe.
