🎧 Listen to the Story · 6:03

Deep in the green rainforest lives Mimi, a tiny marmoset with golden-brown fur and a fluffy round head, whose greatest dream is to open a jungle kitchen for her animal friends. Setting up a little stove of stones and a table woven from vines beneath a giant fig tree, she begins cooking forest-fruit dishes for the creatures around her. Tuk the toucan, Slow the sloth and Lola the leaf-cutter ant soon become her first customers and helpers, and word of her food spreads quickly through the forest.

As more animals arrive each day, Mimi needs more and more fruit. In her hurry she forgets Tuk's advice to take only what is needed and picks every fruit she can find, until the branches stand bare and the baskets empty. With gentle guidance from her friends, she realises her mistake and calls everyone together to set a new rule for the jungle kitchen: take only what the forest can spare, leave fruit for the birds and bees, and help the trees grow back.

The story follows Mimi as she learns to cook smaller portions with more care and to share with nature rather than simply take from it. Young readers see how gathering wisely, planting seeds and resting allow the rainforest to heal, and how friendship grows around the table under the fig tree. It is a warm picture-book tale for children, suited to reading aloud and to talking about conservation, moderation and looking after the natural world.

A Chapter from the Book

The Little Rainforest Chef Yavuz DEMİRKIRAN

Deep in the green rainforest, where leaves dripped with morning dew, lived a tiny marmoset named Mimi. She was no bigger than a thumb, with golden-brown fur and a fluffy round head. Her bright amber eyes sparkled with big ideas. Mimi loved to cook, and she dreamed of opening a jungle kitchen for all her animal friends. 1

Mimi found a cozy spot under a giant fig tree. She set up her jungle kitchen with a little stove made of stones and a table woven from vines. She wore her red apron with the yellow pocket and a tiny chef hat perched on her head. 'Come and taste my food!' she called to the forest. 2

The first customer was Tuk the toucan. He flew down with a swoosh of glossy black feathers and a huge orange beak. 'What smells so good?' he asked. Mimi showed him a bowl of mashed bananas mixed with honey. Tuk took a bite and his bright blueringed eyes went wide. 'Delicious!' he squawked. 'You are a real animal chef!' 3

Word spread fast. Soon Slow the sloth came down from his branch, wearing his blue neck scarf. He moved slowly, but his smile was huge. Mimi made him a plate of soft mango slices and sweet berries. 'Take your time,' she said. Slow chewed happily and said, 'This is the best food in the whole forest.' 4

Lola the leaf-cutter ant scurried up with her yellow headband and tiny woven basket. 'Can I help?' she asked. Mimi nodded, and Lola became her little assistant. Lola carried fruit scraps to the soil and planted seeds wherever she went. The jungle kitchen was busy and happy, and everyone loved Mimi's forestfruit dishes. 5

But soon the little restaurant was too busy. More and more animals came every day. Mimi needed more and more fruits. She sent Tuk to fly high and find ripe ones. 'Take only what we need,' Tuk reminded her. But Mimi was in a hurry and forgot his wise words. She picked every fruit she saw. 6

Day after day, Mimi gathered piles of berries, bananas, and mangoes. The fruit baskets grew empty, and the branches looked bare. Slow the sloth noticed first. 'Mimi,' he said gently, 'the forest needs time to grow back.' Mimi looked around and saw that some trees had no fruit left at all. Her heart felt heavy. 7

Tuk flew down and landed softly beside her. 'The forest gives us so much,' he said. 'We must gather wisely.' Mimi nodded. She knew she had made a mistake. 'I took too much,' she said. 'I only wanted to cook for everyone.' Tuk patted her tiny shoulder with his wing. 'We can fix this together.' 8

Mimi called all her friends to the jungle kitchen. 'From now on,' she announced, 'we will take only what we need. We will leave some fruits for the birds and the bees, and for the forest to grow back.' Slow nodded slowly. Lola waved her antennae. 'I will plant seeds everywhere!' she promised. 9

Tuk flew high to spot the ripest fruits, and he taught Mimi to pick just a few from each tree. Lola carried the scraps back to the soil, and Slow helped count the harvest. 'One for you, one for me, and one for the forest,' he said with a sleepy smile. The animals learned to gather wisely and share with nature. 10

Mimi made a new rule for her jungle kitchen: every dish would use only what the forest could spare. She cooked smaller portions but with more love. The animals didn't mind. They came for the food, but they stayed for the friendship. And they all helped protect the forest by taking only what they needed. 11

Lola the ant became a little teacher. She marched through the forest with her tiny basket and showed everyone how to plant seeds. 'If we take care of the forest, it will take care of us,' she said. The animals listened. They began to gather wisely too, leaving plenty of fruits for the trees to grow back strong and green. 12

Slow the sloth hung from a branch and smiled. 'Rest is good for the forest,' he said. 'And for chefs too.' Mimi laughed and took a little rest in her red apron. When she woke, she saw new buds on the branches. The forest was healing. Tuk flew overhead and called, 'The rainforest is happy again!' 13

Soon the jungle kitchen was busy once more, but in a different way. Mimi cooked tasty dishes with forest fruits, and everyone shared. Birds sang, bees buzzed, and the trees were full of fruit. Mimi had learned to gather wisely, and she taught others to protect the forest. The little rainforest chef was famous not just for her food, but for her care. 14

At the end of the day, all the animals gathered under the fig tree. They ate together and laughed together. Mimi looked at her friends: Tuk with his green leaf satchel, Slow with his blue scarf, and Lola with her yellow headband. 'We did it,' she said. 'We shared with nature, and nature shared with us.' 15

The rainforest stayed green and happy for all the animals who lived there. Mimi's jungle kitchen kept cooking, but always with love and care. And if you listen closely, you might hear Tuk say, 'Gather wisely, my friends.' And Slow might add, 'And always leave some for the forest.' And Lola will nod and plant another seed.
