The Little Soup Wizard

🎧 Listen to the Story · 7:53

In a cozy village nestled between rolling hills, young Finn is a wizard's apprentice with messy copper-red hair and a wooden spoon always tucked in his belt. His teacher, Master Orla, the village soup wizard, knows everything about magical ingredients, and one sunny morning she gives Finn a special task: to make magic soup all by himself. Her only advice is that balance is the secret. Finn nods eagerly, though he is already planning to add extra sparkle powder.

A tiny kitchen sprite named Pip, no bigger than a teacup, zips out to help, and together they toss enchanted vegetables into a big black pot. The soup turns bright pink, then yellow, then a deep mysterious blue, and Finn keeps adding sparkle powder until the pot shakes, the soup burps, and the colors swirl out of control. When Master Orla returns, she does not scold him. Instead she shows him how fresh, sweet vegetables can calm the pot and bring their own kind of magic, and Finn learns that cooking, like magic, depends on balance rather than on more and more sparkle.

The story follows Finn from his first proud experiments to the moment he tastes the finished soup and carries the pot to the village square to share it with everyone. It is a gentle tale for young readers about curiosity, listening to guidance, and the pleasure of making something good and giving it away. The warm, simple telling and the playful kitchen magic make it well suited to children who are just beginning to read stories on their own or to enjoy them read aloud.

A Chapter from the Book

The Little Soup Wizard Yavuz DEMİRKIRAN

In a cozy village nestled between rolling hills, young Finn dreamed of making magic soup. He was a wizard's apprentice with messy copper-red hair that stuck up in tufts and big green eyes full of curiosity. His oversized deep blue robe had rolledup sleeves, and a floppy pointed hat with a star patch sat on his head. A wooden spoon was always tucked in his belt, ready for stirring. 1

Finn's teacher was Master Orla, the village soup wizard. She was tall and slightly stooped, with warm brown skin and silver hair in a neat bun. Her kind amber eyes twinkled behind small round spectacles, and she wore a long green apron over a mustard tunic. Herb pouches hung from her belt, and she carried a carved ladle for tasting. She knew everything about magical ingredients. 2

One sunny morning, Master Orla said, "Finn, today you may make magic soup all by yourself. But remember, balance is the secret." Finn nodded eagerly, though he was already planning to add extra sparkle powder. As Master Orla went to gather herbs, a tiny kitchen sprite named Pip zipped out from behind a jar. Pip was no bigger than a teacup, with mint-green skin, tufty lime hair, and wings like a dragonfly. He wore an acorncap hat and a leaf apron, and carried a pin-sized whisk. "I'll help!" Pip squeaked. 3

Finn pulled out a big black pot and set it on the fire. He gathered enchanted vegetables: a glowing orange carrot, a purple potato that hummed, and a leafy green cabbage that whispered secrets. Pip dashed around, stirring with his tiny whisk. "Careful!" Pip chirped. "Those veggies are full of magic!" Finn tossed them all in, feeling very important. 4

As the pot began to bubble, the soup turned bright pink, then yellow, then a deep, mysterious blue. Bubbles rose in funny shapes—some looked like stars, others like little fish. Finn giggled and added more sparkle powder. "This is going to be amazing!" he cried. But the soup started to bubble faster and faster, and the colors swirled wildly. Pip's eyes grew wide. "Uhoh," he squeaked. 5

The pot began to shake, and the soup sloshed over the sides. "Too much sparkle powder!" Pip warned, fluttering around Finn's head. Finn tried to stir faster, but the soup turned a sickly green and let out a loud burp. "Oh no!" Finn gasped. "Master Orla will be back soon!" He didn't want to fail his first solo soup. But the pot kept bubbling, and strange shapes floated to the surface. 6

Just then, Master Orla returned. She took one look at the bubbling, color-changing pot and smiled gently. "I see you've been experimenting," she said, her amber eyes twinkling. Finn hung his head. "I wanted to make it extra magical," he admitted. Master Orla patted his shoulder. "Magic is about balance, Finn. Let's fix this together." She tied her green apron tighter and rolled up her sleeves. 7

Master Orla picked up her carved ladle and tasted the soup. "Hmm, too much sparkle, not enough sweetness," she said. "We need to add ingredients that balance the magic." She handed Finn a basket of fresh vegetables: sweet red peppers, a crunchy celery stalk, and a juicy tomato. "These will calm the pot," she explained. Finn nodded, determined to do better. Pip hovered nearby, ready to help. 8

Finn carefully chopped the vegetables, and Pip stirred them in with his tiny whisk. As each new ingredient went into the pot, the soup began to change. The sickly green faded to a warm orange, and the bubbles slowed to a gentle simmer. "It's working!" Finn cheered. Master Orla smiled. "You see, fresh vegetables bring their own kind of magic. They make the soup healthy and happy." Finn added a pinch of salt, and the soup smelled wonderful. 9

The soup now bubbled in cheerful, friendly ways—little bubbles that popped with a soft "plink." Finn tasted it with a wooden spoon. "Mmm! It's delicious!" he exclaimed. Master Orla nodded. "You've found the balance. Now, let's share it with the village." Finn's eyes lit up. He had never shared his cooking with anyone before. "Do you think they'll like it?" he asked. "There's only one way to find out," Master Orla said with a wink. 10

Finn and Master Orla carried the big pot to the village square. Pip flew ahead, ringing a tiny bell to call everyone. The villagers came from all around—children, parents, grandparents—with wooden bowls and spoons ready. They sniffed the air. "Something smells wonderful!" said a woman with a bright scarf. "Is that magic soup?" asked a boy. Finn's heart beat fast. He hoped they would enjoy it. 11

Master Orla ladled out the soup, and Finn handed each bowl to a villager with a proud smile. The first taste was met with wide eyes and happy sighs. "This is the best soup ever!" cried the boy. "So tasty and healthy!" said a grandmother, licking her spoon. The villagers cheered and asked for more. Finn felt a warm glow inside. He had made something magical—and everyone loved it. 12

As the villagers ate, Finn realized that the real magic wasn't in the sparkle powder or enchanted vegetables. It was in the fresh ingredients, the careful balance, and the joy of sharing. Master Orla put her arm around him. "You've learned a valuable lesson today," she said. "Healthy habits can be fun, especially when you cook with love." Pip did a happy loop in the air. "And a little help from friends!" he squeaked.
