The Moonfish Parade

Deep in the sparkling blue ocean lives a school of moonfish, named for the soft glow that shimmers from their scales when the moon is full. Among them is Lumi, a cheerful fish with pearly silver-blue scales and a crescent-shaped tail, who dreams up a grand idea: to hold a parade on the night of the lunar eclipse, when the hidden moon will make their lights shine brighter than ever. Her friends join in — Coral, who designs the formations, Finn, the strongest swimmer, and Pebble, the smallest of the school, whose enthusiasm is bigger than his clumsy fins.

For days the moonfish gather glowing seaweed, shimmering shells and pearls of light, and practice their dance until it is perfectly in sync. But on the night of the eclipse a strong current sweeps through the reef and scatters everything they have made. With their decorations gone and the dark water pulling at them, the friends must decide what to do. What follows is a quieter kind of celebration, built not on ornaments but on the light each fish already carries and on the way they hold together when things go wrong.

This gentle underwater tale shows young readers how teamwork, patience and a little encouragement can turn a disappointment into something memorable. Pebble's small mistakes and the group's steady support for one another make it a warm read for children who are just beginning to enjoy longer stories, and for anyone who likes a tale about friends who shine best together.

The Moonfish Parade Yavuz DEMİRKIRAN

Deep in the sparkling blue ocean, where sunlight danced in wiggly patterns, lived a school of moonfish. They were named for the soft glow that shimmered from their scales, especially when the moon was full. Among them was Lumi, a cheerful fish with pearly silver-blue scales and a crescent-shaped tail. She wore a woven seaweed sash with tiny shell beads and always had a bright idea. 1

Lumi swam through the coral gardens, her amber eyes sparkling with excitement. "The lunar eclipse is coming!" she announced. "The moon will hide, and our lights will shine brighter than ever. We must have a parade!" The other moonfish wiggled their fins with joy. Pebble, the smallest fish with speckled grey-blue scales, zipped around in circles. "A parade! Can I help?" he squeaked. 2

Coral, a graceful fish with coral-pink and orange scales, glided forward. She wore a crown of tiny white blossoms and pink sea-glass. "I will design the formations," she said calmly. Finn, the biggest and strongest, nodded. His deep indigo scales flashed with cyan spots. "I'll gather decorations," he offered. "And I'll lead the dance!" Lumi added. Everyone cheered and set to work. 3

For days, the moonfish prepared. They gathered glowing seaweed, shimmering shells, and tiny pearls of light. Pebble carried decorations in his stubby fins, but he was a bit clumsy. Oops! He dropped a string of glowing blue pebbles, which tangled around his fin. "Sorry!" he said, his big teal eyes wide. Lumi smiled. "It's okay, Pebble. Keep trying!" 4

Coral arranged the decorations into beautiful patterns. She placed glowing shells in swirling shapes and long ribbons of seaweed that sparkled. "This will be the most wonderful parade ever," she said, her violet eyes shining. Finn swam to the deepest trench and brought back rare glowing corals. The moonfish practiced their dance every day, swirling and twirling in perfect sync. 5

The night of the lunar eclipse arrived. The moon began to disappear, and the ocean grew dark. The moonfish glowed softly, their lights flickering like stars. Lumi swam to the front, her seaweed sash fluttering. "Ready, everyone?" she called. "Let's make this the best parade ever!" But just then, a strong current swept through the reef. 6

Whoosh! The current scattered everything! Glowing shells flew in all directions. Seaweed ribbons twisted away. Pebble tumbled head over tail, his pebble bracelet jingling. "Oh no!" cried Coral, watching her beautiful patterns fall apart. Finn tried to swim against the current, but even he was pushed back. For a moment, everyone floated in silence, watching their hard work drift away. 7

Pebble sniffled. "I lost my decorations," he said sadly. Lumi swam over and gave him a gentle nudge. "Don't worry, Pebble. We can fix this." She looked around at her friends. "We don't need decorations to shine. We have our own lights!" Coral's eyes widened. "That's right! We can use our natural glow to create a new parade!" 8

Finn nodded, his green eyes steady. "I can anchor the formation so the current doesn't scatter us." Coral thought for a moment. "We can arrange ourselves in a spiral, like a glowing galaxy." Pebble bounced up and down. "I can carry messages between everyone!" Lumi clapped her fins. "Perfect! Let's work together!" 9

The moonfish quickly formed a plan. Finn swam to the center, his strong tail planted firmly, and the others gathered around him. Coral directed everyone into a swirling spiral, with each fish using its own light. Lumi swam to the top and called out directions. Pebble darted between fish, sharing Coral's instructions. Even though the current still pulled, they held together. 10

Lumi's silver-blue scales glowed brighter than ever. "Follow my light!" she called, and the moonfish swam in a pattern. Finn's cyan spots flashed rhythmically. Coral's pink-orange scales shimmered like a sunrise. Pebble's pebble bracelet twinkled as he swam. The moonfish created a moving, glowing dance that lit up the dark water. The lunar eclipse made their lights shine even more brilliantly. 11

The parade was more beautiful than anyone had imagined. Fish from all over the reef came to watch. They saw a swirling galaxy of lights, swirling and pulsing in the dark water. The moonfish moved together, a team of glowing stars. The current still pushed, but the moonfish held their formation. Their teamwork made the celebration magical. 12

When the moon began to reappear, the moonfish finished their dance with a final burst of light. The reef erupted in cheers. Pebble did a happy somersault. "We did it!" he shouted. Coral smiled. "We couldn't have done it without each other." Finn nodded quietly. Lumi beamed. "This is the best parade ever!" 13

The moonfish gathered in a circle, their lights still glowing softly. Lumi spoke. "We learned something important tonight. Decorations are nice, but teamwork is what truly makes a celebration shine." Pebble added, "And mistakes can lead to new ideas!" Everyone laughed. They promised to always work together, no matter what. 14

From that night on, the moonfish held a parade every lunar eclipse. They used their natural lights to create dazzling patterns. And each time, they remembered how a scattered parade became the most beautiful celebration of all. Because when they worked together, they could light up the whole ocean. 15

And if you ever swim near the reef during a lunar eclipse, you might see them—a swirling galaxy of glowing fish, dancing together. Their lights remind everyone that cooperation makes every celebration richer. The moonfish parade is a story of friendship, teamwork, and the magic that happens when we work together.
