In a faraway land, a castle on a hill glows day and night thanks to a magic moonstone that floats in its great hall. Princess Selene, a kind and curious girl with silver-blonde hair and crescent-shaped freckles, loves to watch it shine, and the whole castle feels safe in its light. One morning she discovers that the moonstone has dimmed, its pearly surface cracked and its smile faded, and she knows she must help.
With her friend Toby, a cheerful castle helper who carries his little brass lantern everywhere, Selene walks through the halls and notices something important: lamps blaze in empty rooms, candles burn on unused tables, and chandeliers sparkle over nobody. The moonstone is not simply tired, it is being worn out by wasted light. Selene proposes a simple rule, use only the light you need, and Queen Luna, her wise mother, helps spread the idea to everyone in the castle. The residents turn off lamps, open curtains to the sun, share lights, and even make a game of saving energy, while the moonstone slowly begins to heal.
This gentle fairy tale introduces young readers to the idea that light, like any resource, should not be wasted and that small habits shared by a whole community can make a real difference. Selene's patience and careful observation show children that noticing a problem is the first step toward solving it. The story suits children in early primary school and works well as a read-aloud about kindness, responsibility, and working together.

A Chapter from the Book
The Moonstone Princess Yavuz DEMİRKIRAN
In a faraway land, a castle stood on a hill. Its towers sparkled with light, day and night. The light came from a magic moonstone that floated in the great hall. Princess Selene, with her silver-blonde hair and warm smile, loved to watch it glow. The moonstone was the heart of the castle, and everyone felt safe in its light. 1
Princess Selene was kind and curious. She had light-brown skin and big blue eyes that noticed everything. On her cheeks were tiny freckles shaped like crescent moons. She wore a pale blue gown with silver trim and a moon-shaped pendant. Her mother, Queen Luna, ruled the castle wisely. The queen wore an indigo gown and a silver circlet in her braided crown. 2
One morning, Selene skipped into the great hall. The moonstone floated in its silver crescent cradle, but its glow was dim. The cracks on its pearly surface looked tired. Selene gasped. 'Oh no! What is wrong?' she whispered. The moonstone's face looked sleepy, and its smile had faded. Selene knew she had to help. 3
Selene hurried to find her friend Toby. He was a cheerful castle helper with messy ginger hair and a gap-toothed grin. He carried his little brass lantern everywhere, even in daylight. 'Toby, the moonstone is losing its glow!' Selene said. Toby's green eyes widened. 'We must tell the queen!' he cried. They ran to Queen Luna's chamber, their footsteps echoing. 4
Queen Luna listened with worried amber eyes. 'The moonstone has never dimmed before,' she said softly. She placed a gentle hand on Selene's shoulder. 'We must find out why.' Selene nodded. She looked around the castle. Every room was flooded with light. Lamps burned in empty halls. Candles flickered in unused rooms. 'So much light is wasted!' Selene thought. 5
Selene decided to investigate. She walked through the castle, watching carefully. In the kitchen, ten lamps blazed, but only one cook worked. In the library, candles burned on every table, though no one read. In the ballroom, chandeliers sparkled, but the room was empty. 'The moonstone's light is being wasted,' Selene said to Toby. 'We must save it.' 6
Toby nodded eagerly. 'What can we do?' he asked. Selene thought hard. 'We need to use only the light we need,' she said. 'Let's start by turning off lamps in empty rooms.' So Selene and Toby went from room to room. They turned off lamps that no one used. They blew out candles that were not needed. Slowly, the castle grew a little darker, but no one minded. 7
At first, some people grumbled. 'It's too dark!' said the cook. But Selene explained, 'The moonstone is tired. We must save its light.' The cook nodded. 'I only need one lamp to cook,' she said. She turned off the extra lamps. Toby grinned. 'See? It's easy!' He carried his brass lantern to light his way. The moonstone's glow flickered a little brighter. 8
Selene asked Queen Luna to make a rule. 'Let's use only the light we need,' she said. Queen Luna smiled. 'That is a wise plan, my clever daughter.' She called everyone to the great hall. 'From now on, turn off lights when you leave a room. Use only what you must.' Everyone agreed. They wanted to save the moonstone. The castle began to change. 9
Toby took charge. He reminded everyone to turn off lamps. 'Last one out, light off!' he called. He carried his brass lantern to guide him through dark halls. People laughed and helped. They turned off lights in empty rooms. They opened curtains to let in sunlight. Selene smiled. The moonstone's glow flickered stronger every day. 10
Days passed, and the moonstone still looked tired. Selene worried. 'Is there something else?' she wondered. She sat beside the moonstone, watching its sleepy face. Then she noticed a faint crack. 'Oh! You're not just tired—you're hurt!' she whispered. The moonstone needed time to heal. It needed less work. Selene knew they had to try even harder. 11
Selene called everyone together. 'We must use even less light,' she said. 'Let's share lamps and use candles only when necessary.' Queen Luna nodded. 'We can do this together.' Toby cheered. 'Let's make it a game! Who can save the most light?' Everyone joined in. They shared lamps and turned off extra lights. The castle grew dimmer, but hearts were bright. 12
Slowly, the moonstone began to glow brighter. Its cracks smoothed, and its smile returned. The light spread through the castle, warm and golden. Selene clapped her hands. 'It's working!' she cried. Toby danced with his lantern. Queen Luna beamed. 'You saved the moonstone, Selene.' The whole castle felt like a happy, glowing home again. 13
From that day on, the castle used light wisely. People turned off lamps when they left a room. They shared candles and opened curtains. The moonstone glowed happily, its light never fading. Selene taught everyone that precious things must be used wisely. Queen Luna announced, 'We will always take care of our moonstone.' And everyone cheered. 14
Princess Selene stood by the moonstone, its gentle light on her face. 'You're safe now,' she whispered. The moonstone's smile seemed to grow. Toby came running. 'The castle looks beautiful!' he said. Selene nodded. 'Because we all worked together.' Queen Luna hugged her daughter. 'You are a wise princess, Selene.' The castle shone with a warm, steady glow.
