Under a bright blue wave, beneath a coral arch, lives Oliver, an octopus with soft coral-orange skin, tiny round glasses and a teal measuring tape around his neck. His eight arms are made for sewing, and he opens his tailor shop with a sign promising clothes for every creature. But dressing bodies built for swimming, pinching and curling turns out to be harder than he expected.
His first customers each bring a problem. Finn the young fish needs a vest for the sea parade, but his old one pinches his fins. Snappy the crab wants a jacket for the reef party, yet his claws must stay free to pinch and wave. Pearl the tiny seahorse needs a scarf for the sea concert, but flowing fabric tangles around her curling tail. Each time a first attempt fails, Oliver listens carefully to how the creature moves and what it needs to do, then starts again with a new design: wide openings for fins, holes for claws, a short fitted scarf held by a pearl brooch.
Through these visits Oliver learns that good design begins with listening, not with what looks smart on the shelf. Word spreads across the sea, and fish, crabs, seahorses, eels, a jellyfish and a starfish all come to the shop under the coral arch. The story is told in simple, warm language and suits young children reading alone or aloud, offering a gentle lesson about patience, careful attention and making room for the way others are built to move.

A Chapter from the Book
The Octopus Tailor Yavuz DEMİRKIRAN
Once upon a time, under a bright blue wave, there was a cozy shop beneath a coral arch. Oliver the octopus lived there. He had soft coral-orange skin with lighter freckles and large round amber eyes. He wore tiny round glasses and a teal measuring tape around his neck. His eight arms were perfect for sewing, and he loved making clothes for the sea creatures. 1
Oliver opened his tailor shop with a happy smile. He hung a sign that said, 'Oliver's Tailor Shop - Clothes for Every Creature.' His small apron had a pocket full of needles. Fish swam by and peeked in. 'Come in!' Oliver said. 'I can make anything you need.' But making clothes for underwater bodies was not as easy as he thought. 2
The first customer was Finn, a young fish with bright yellow skin and sky-blue stripes. His fan-shaped fins fluttered with excitement. 'I need a vest for the sea parade,' Finn said, wiggling. 'But my old one pinches my fins.' Oliver measured Finn carefully with his teal tape. 'Let me think,' he said, tapping his chin. 3
Oliver sewed a snug striped vest for Finn. It looked smart, but when Finn tried it on, his fins were stuck. 'Oh no!' Finn cried. 'I can't swim!' Oliver saw the problem. The vest was too tight around the fins. He needed to design something that gave Finn room to move. 'Don't worry,' Oliver said. 'We'll fix it.' 4
Oliver listened carefully as Finn explained, 'My fins need to flap freely when I swim.' Oliver nodded and thought. He took off the snug vest and started again. This time, he made a loose vest in sea-green with wide openings for the fins. When Finn put it on, his fins flapped happily. 'It's perfect!' Finn cheered. 'I can swim fast!' 5
Word spread about the wonderful tailor under the coral arch. Soon, Snappy the crab came to the shop. He was deep red with bumpy shell and big claws. He wore a too-tight blue jacket that trapped his claws. 'I need a jacket for the reef party,' Snappy said grumpily. 'But my claws need space.' Oliver measured Snappy's wide shell and big claws. 6
Oliver made a smart blue jacket, but when Snappy tried it on, his claws were stuck. 'I can't even pinch!' Snappy complained. Oliver listened carefully. 'My claws need to move freely,' Snappy said. Oliver thought and thought. Then he had an idea. He would design a jacket with open sides and special holes for the claws. 'Let's try again,' Oliver said kindly. 7
Oliver snipped and sewed a new jacket. It was red with open sides and two big holes for Snappy's claws. When Snappy put it on, his claws popped out perfectly. 'Now I can pinch and wave!' Snappy said, proudly clicking his claws. 'This is the best jacket ever!' Oliver smiled. He was learning that good design starts with listening. 8
Next came Pearl, a tiny seahorse with pale pink and lavender skin. She wore a flowing lavender scarf and a small pearl brooch. 'I need a scarf for the sea concert,' Pearl said shyly. 'But my tail curls, and scarves get tangled.' Oliver measured her delicate fins and curling tail. 'I'll make something special,' he promised. 9
Oliver made a lovely lavender scarf, but when Pearl tried it on, it tangled around her curled tail. 'Oh dear,' Pearl said softly. 'I can't swim straight.' Oliver listened carefully. 'My tail needs to curl freely,' Pearl explained. Oliver thought about her long snout and delicate fins. He needed a design that stayed clear of her tail. 'I have an idea,' he said. 10
Oliver redesigned the scarf. He made it fitted and short, with a small pearl brooch to hold it in place. It didn't touch Pearl's tail at all. When Pearl tried it on, she could curl her tail and swim gracefully. 'It's beautiful!' Pearl said, her dark eyes shining. 'Thank you for listening.' Oliver beamed. He loved seeing his customers happy. 11
Oliver realized that good design considers each creature's needs. He started asking every customer questions: 'How do you move? What do you need to do?' Then he designed clothes that were just right. Word spread across the sea. Fish, crabs, seahorses, and even eels came to his shop. Oliver's eight arms were always busy sewing, but he never rushed. 12
One day, a line of customers stretched outside the coral arch. Oliver greeted each one with a smile. He listened to their problems and thought of clever solutions. For a jellyfish, he made a hat that didn't squash her tentacles. For a starfish, he made a belt with five holes. Everyone left happy, wearing clothes that fit perfectly and felt comfortable. 13
Oliver's shop became the most popular place under the sea. But Oliver didn't just make clothes. He made friends. Finn, Snappy, and Pearl visited often. They loved to watch Oliver work, his eight arms moving quickly. 'How do you do it?' Finn asked. 'I listen,' Oliver said. 'Then I think about what each creature really needs.' 14
The sea creatures learned a lesson too. They saw that Oliver's clothes were special because he cared about each one. Good design starts with listening and thinking about what each person really needs. And Oliver, the octopus tailor, was the happiest creature in the sea. He had a shop full of friends, and every day brought new ways to help.
