🎧 Listen to the Story · 7:12

Princess Liana loves flowers more than anything in the world, and her days are spent skipping through the palace garden with her woven basket. When she discovers a book about rare jungle orchids with petals like purple butterflies, she decides she must have a crown made from them. She runs to Old Gardener Finn for help, but he gently explains that these orchids are endangered, and picking the last wild flowers would mean losing them forever.

Unsure what to do, Liana turns to her mother, Queen Amara, who tells her that true beauty respects nature. That night Liana finds her own answer: instead of taking from the jungle, she will grow her own orchid garden at the palace. With Finn's guidance she learns about special soil, careful watering, shade, and keeping bugs away without harming them. Her hands get dirty and her dress gets muddy, but she tends the seeds patiently.

Weeks later the first purple orchid blooms, and soon the garden fills with color and visiting butterflies. Liana invites the village children to see what she has grown, and the queen declares a Flower Festival to celebrate. The story teaches young readers that patience and care can fulfil a wish without harming the natural world, and that respecting living things is a kind of beauty in itself. It suits children who enjoy gentle fairy tales with a clear message about conservation.

A Chapter from the Book

The Orchid Crown Yavuz DEMİRKIRAN

In a faraway kingdom, Princess Liana lived in a palace with a beautiful garden. She loved flowers more than anything in the world. Every morning, she skipped through the garden with her woven basket, humming a happy tune. Her wavy black hair bounced as she ran, and her mint-green dress with leaf embroidery swirled around her knees. Liana was kind and curious, and she always stopped to smell the roses. 1

One day, Liana visited the royal library and found a book about rare jungle orchids. The pictures showed flowers with petals like purple butterflies and golden centers. Liana gasped. 'These are the most beautiful flowers I have ever seen!' she whispered. She decided then and there that she wanted a crown made of those rare orchids. She imagined how lovely it would look on her head. 2

Liana ran to the garden and found Old Gardener Finn. He was short and stooped, with a bushy white beard and a wide straw hat. He was digging in the soil with his wooden trowel. 'Finn,' she said, 'I want a crown of jungle orchids! Can you help me find some?' Finn stopped digging and looked at her with twinkling grey eyes. He smiled, but then his smile faded a little. 3

Finn wiped his hands on his brown overalls and sat down on a wooden bench. 'Princess,' he said gently, 'those jungle orchids are very rare. They only grow deep in the jungle, and there are only a few left. People have picked too many of them.' Liana's big brown eyes grew wide. 'You mean they are in danger?' she asked. Finn nodded. 'Yes, they are endangered.' 4

Liana felt a lump in her throat. She did not want to pick the last orchids. But she still dreamed of a beautiful crown. She walked back to the palace, thinking hard. Her small braid swung as she walked. In the palace hallway, she met her mother, Queen Amara. The queen wore a flowing royal-blue gown with gold trim, and her silver-streaked hair was in a high bun. 'What is troubling you, my dear?' she asked. 5

Liana told her mother about the rare orchids and her wish for a crown. Queen Amara listened patiently. Then she said, 'True beauty respects nature, Liana. If we take the last wild flowers, there will be none left for others to enjoy.' Liana looked up at her mother. 'But I still want a crown,' she said. The queen smiled. 'Perhaps you can find another way.' 6

That night, Liana had an idea. She could grow her own orchids! She would not pick the wild ones. She would plant a garden full of orchids at the palace. Then she could have a crown and the jungle orchids could stay safe. The next morning, she ran to Finn. 'I want to plant an orchid garden!' she said. Finn's eyes sparkled. 'What a wonderful idea!' he said. 7

Finn showed Liana how to plant orchid seeds. They needed special soil and just the right amount of water and shade. Liana worked hard every day. She filled her woven basket with seeds and carried water from the well. Her hands got dirty, and her dress got muddy, but she did not mind. 'These little seeds will grow into beautiful flowers,' she said with a smile. 8

Queen Amara came to see the garden. She was proud of Liana. 'You are doing a kind thing,' she said. 'You are helping nature.' Liana's garden grew and grew. Green leaves pushed up from the soil. Tiny buds appeared. Liana checked on them every morning. She talked to them and watered them. Finn taught her how to keep the bugs away without harming them. 9

Weeks passed. One sunny morning, Liana saw the first orchid bloom. It was purple with golden spots, just like the pictures in the book. 'It's beautiful!' she cried. She ran to tell Finn and her mother. More orchids bloomed, one by one. The garden was soon filled with colors: purple, pink, and yellow. Butterflies came to visit. The palace garden had never looked so lovely. 10

Liana wanted to share her garden with everyone. She invited the children from the village to come and see. They walked among the flowers with wide eyes. 'These are the most beautiful orchids I have ever seen!' said a little girl. Liana smiled. 'And they are all grown here, so the jungle orchids are safe,' she said. The children clapped their hands. 11

Queen Amara decided to celebrate. She declared a Flower Festival. People came from all over the kingdom to see Liana's orchid garden. There was music and dancing. Liana wore a simple dress, but she felt like a princess. Finn brought a special gift: a crown woven from the orchids Liana had grown. 'You have earned this,' he said. Liana put it on her head. 12

The crown was light and fragrant. The petals shimmered in the sun. Everyone cheered. Liana felt happy, but she also felt proud. She had not taken from the jungle; she had grown something new. She looked at her mother, who nodded with a warm smile. 'You see,' said Queen Amara, 'beauty that comes from kindness is the best kind.' Liana hugged her mother. 13

From that day on, Liana took care of her orchid garden. She learned more about plants and nature. She became known as the Princess of Orchids. People came to ask her advice about gardening. Liana always told them, 'Grow your own flowers. Leave the wild ones where they belong.' And she always wore a fresh orchid in her hair.
