🎧 Listen to the Story · 6:46

Emma loves to paint more than anything in the world, and her little paintbrush, Pip, is always at her side, cheering her on. One day she decides to paint a tall snowy mountain on her plain white bedroom door, complete with a winding path, pine trees and a small cabin. Pip warns her that paint dries fast and that whatever she creates must be cared for, but Emma does not yet understand what he means.

Then the painted door begins to glow. A cold wind blows out of the mountain scene and a tired traveler named Thomas steps through, lost in the snow and unable to find his way home. With Pip urging them to hurry before the paint dries and the door closes forever, Emma takes her paintbrush and steps into her own painting to guide Thomas back down the mountain. Together they follow the path she painted, past snow-covered pines and a red marker dot, while the colors of the door behind them slowly begin to fade.

The story is a gentle lesson about creativity and responsibility: making something beautiful is only the beginning, and taking care of what we create is what makes it truly worthwhile. Told in simple, vivid language with a warm and brave young heroine, the tale is suited to young readers and to anyone sharing a story about imagination, kindness and seeing a task through to the end.

The Painted Door Yavuz DEMİRKIRAN

Emma loved to paint more than anything in the world. She painted on paper, on rocks, and even on the sidewalk with chalk. Her little paintbrush, Pip, always sat on her shoulder and cheered her on. Pip had bright teal eyes and a tiny blue scarf, and he never stopped chatting. 'What will you paint today, Emma?' he asked, wiggling his bristles. 1

Emma looked around her room for something new to paint. Her eyes landed on her bedroom door, plain and white. 'I'll paint a mountain!' she said. She mixed blues and whites and greys, and her brush danced across the wood. Pip watched closely. 'A mountain is a big thing to paint,' he said. 'You must be careful with big things.' Emma just smiled and kept painting. 2

Emma painted a tall, snowy mountain with a winding path and a little cabin at the bottom. She added pine trees and a bright blue sky. The painting looked so real that Emma almost felt cold. 'It's beautiful,' whispered Pip. 'But remember, paint dries fast. Whatever you create, you must take care of.' Emma nodded, but she didn't really understand what Pip meant. 3

Just then, something strange happened. The painted door began to glow, and the mountain seemed to move. A cold wind blew from the painting, and the door swung open. Out stepped a traveler in a worn navy coat and a thick wool scarf. His cheeks were rosy with frost, and he looked very tired. 'Oh my,' he said. 'Where am I?' 4

Emma gasped. 'You came out of my painting!' The traveler looked back at the door and his eyes went wide. 'I was walking in the mountains,' he said, 'and then I saw a door. I opened it, and here I am.' Pip flew up and down nervously. 'The paint is still wet,' he warned. 'If it dries before he returns, the door will close forever!' 5

Emma knew she had to help. 'We must get you back before the paint dries,' she said. The traveler nodded. 'My name is Thomas,' he said. 'I was lost in the snow. I don't know the way home.' Emma took a deep breath. 'I painted the mountain, so I know the path. I'll guide you.' She grabbed her paintbrush and stepped through the door. 6

Inside the painting, the snow crunched under Emma's sneakers. The mountain rose high above them, and the wind blew cold. Thomas pulled his scarf tighter. 'I've been wandering for days,' he said. 'I followed a light and found the door.' Pip reminded them, 'The paint is drying. We must hurry!' Emma nodded and led the way along the winding path. 7

The path was slippery, and Thomas stumbled. Emma caught his hand. 'Are you okay?' she asked. 'Just tired,' he said with a gentle smile. 'But with you here, I feel hopeful.' They walked past pine trees dusted with snow. Emma's yellow overalls were splattered with paint, and now with snow, too. She didn't mind. She was on a mission. 8

Suddenly, the path split in two. 'Which way?' Thomas asked. Emma looked at the painting she had made. 'The cabin is at the bottom of the mountain,' she said. 'We need to go down.' But the snow had covered the trail. Pip flew ahead and called, 'I see a marker! A red dot of paint!' Emma remembered painting a red dot to mark the safe path. 'This way!' she shouted. 9

They hurried down the mountain, but the snow grew deeper. Thomas shivered. 'I don't think I can make it,' he whispered. Emma squeezed his hand. 'Yes, you can. We're almost there.' She used her paintbrush to sweep snow away from the path. Pip cheered, 'The door is just ahead! But hurry, the paint is drying fast!' 10

Back in Emma's room, the painted door was starting to fade. The colors were becoming dull. Emma and Thomas ran toward the door. 'We're almost there!' Emma cried. But just as they reached it, the door began to shrink. 'Oh no!' said Pip. 'The paint is drying! You must go through now!' Thomas looked at Emma. 'Thank you for guiding me,' he said. 11

Emma pushed Thomas gently through the door. 'Go! I'll be right behind you!' Thomas stepped through and disappeared. Emma took one last look at the snowy mountain. Then she jumped through the door. She landed on her bedroom floor with a thump. The door was plain and white again. Thomas was standing there, safe and sound. 'You did it, Emma!' said Pip. 12

Thomas smiled warmly. 'You saved me,' he said. 'I don't know how to thank you.' Emma's cheeks flushed. 'I'm just glad you're safe,' she said. 'I learned that when you create something, you have to take care of it.' Pip nodded wisely. 'That's right. Creativity is a gift, but responsibility makes it truly wonderful.' 13

Emma looked at her plain door and smiled. She picked up her paintbrush. 'I think I'll paint something new tomorrow,' she said. 'But first, I'll make sure it's something I can take care of.' Thomas gave her a small leather satchel as a thank-you gift. 'For your next adventure,' he said. Emma hugged him. 'Goodbye, Thomas. Travel safely.' 14

Thomas left, and Emma sat on her bed with Pip. 'You were very brave,' said Pip. 'And very responsible.' Emma looked at her paint-splattered overalls and her wooden paintbrush. She felt proud. 'I learned that creativity is a wonderful gift,' she said.
