🎧 Listen to the Story · 6:48

In the kingdom of Sunnyvale, Princess Ada is the most curious inventor around. With her goggles, tool belt and teal overalls, and her little blue bird Pip always on her shoulder, she is ready for any challenge. When a blazing summer sun threatens the crops and the people just before the harvest celebration, Ada promises her father, King Bertram, that she can cool everyone down with her latest project: a cloud-making machine.

Ada tests the machine carefully at first, but excitement gets the better of her. When she turns the dial up too fast, the machine puffs out cloud after cloud until the sky turns gray, the day grows gloomy and rain begins to fall. With the celebration only a day away, Ada must stop the runaway machine, calm her worried father, and reassure Mrs. Plum, the royal cook, whose three hundred pies are getting soggy. Fixing the problem takes patience, a tiny wrench and a lesson about testing each step instead of rushing ahead.

The story follows Ada as she starts over, tries every setting one by one and finds the 'Just Right' balance that clears the sky again. Young readers who enjoy playful inventions, gentle humor and determined heroines will learn alongside Ada that curiosity is a gift, but good work also needs patience, careful practice and the courage to admit a mistake and put it right.

A Chapter from the Book

The Royal Cloudmaker Yavuz DEMİRKIRAN

In the kingdom of Sunnyvale, Princess Ada was the most curious inventor you could meet. She had warm brown skin, curly black hair in two puffy buns, and a gap-toothed grin that showed she was always up to something. With her oversized goggles pushed up on her forehead and her trusty tool belt around her teal overalls, she was ready for any challenge. Her little blue bird, Pip, perched on her shoulder and chirped happily. 1

One hot summer day, the sun blazed down on the castle. King Bertram, Ada's father, fanned himself with his red cape. "Oh dear," he said, twirling his thick moustache. "The harvest celebration is next week, and it's far too hot for the crops and the people." Ada's hazel eyes sparkled. "Don't worry, Father! I have an idea that will make everyone cool and happy!" 2

Ada dashed to her workshop and pulled out her latest project: a cloud-making machine. It had shiny pipes, spinning gears, and a big blue button. "With this machine, I can make fluffy clouds to give us shade," she explained to Pip. "But first, we need to test it carefully." Pip tilted his head and chirped. "Testing is important," Ada said. "Let's see if it works!" 3

Ada set the dial to 'Small Fluff' and pressed the button. The machine whirred and puffed out one perfect little cloud. "It works!" Ada cheered. Pip flew around it, tweeting. But the cloud was too small to give any shade. "Hmm, maybe I need more power," Ada said. She turned the dial to 'Medium Puff' and pressed the button again. 4

The machine rumbled and puffed out five clouds. They floated up and covered the sun just a little. "Better!" Ada said. "But still not enough shade for the whole kingdom." Pip chirped a warning as the machine shook. "Maybe just a bit more," Ada said, and turned the dial to 'Big Fluff'. She pressed the button with a grin. 5

The machine roared to life! It puffed and puffed, making cloud after cloud after cloud. Soon the sky was filled with big, gray clouds. They blocked out the sun completely, and the day turned dark and gloomy. "Oh no!" Ada cried. "That's way too many clouds!" The machine kept puffing, and soon it began to drizzle. Pip hid under Ada's tool belt. 6

King Bertram rushed out of the castle, his gold crown askew. "Ada! What is happening? The sky is gray, and my royal boots are getting wet!" Ada gulped. "I'm sorry, Father. My machine made too many clouds. I need to fix it." The king sighed and twirled his moustache. "Please hurry, dear. The harvest celebration is tomorrow!" 7

Ada ran to the machine and tried to turn it off, but the button was stuck. "Pip, help me!" she called. Pip flew to her tool belt and pulled out a tiny wrench with his beak. Ada took it and quickly unscrewed a panel. Inside, she saw gears spinning too fast. "I need to slow them down," she said. 8

Ada carefully adjusted the gears, but the machine hiccupped and puffed a cloud right in her face. "Pfft!" she spluttered, her goggles fogging up. Pip chirped with laughter. "Very funny," Ada said, wiping her goggles. She tried again, but this time the machine made a cloud shaped like a giant potato. "Well, that's not helpful," she giggled. 9

Just then, Mrs. Plum, the royal cook, bustled out of the kitchen. She wore her lavender dress and white apron, and her round glasses fogged up in the damp air. "Princess Ada, I've made three hundred pies for the celebration, but they're getting soggy!" Ada sighed. "I'm trying, Mrs. Plum, but my machine won't cooperate." Mrs. Plum patted her shoulder. "Take a deep breath, dear. Remember: every invention needs patience and practice." 10

Ada took a deep breath and thought carefully. She realized she had skipped proper testing. "I was so excited that I turned the dial up too fast without checking each step," she said. "I need to test the controls one by one and find the right setting." Pip chirped in agreement. Ada smiled. "Let's do this properly." 11

Ada started from the beginning. She turned the dial to 'Small Fluff' and pressed the button. One cloud came out. Then she tried 'Medium Puff' and got five clouds. She tested each setting, writing down what happened. She found that the 'Big Fluff' setting was too strong, but a new setting she called 'Just Right' made the perfect number of clouds. "I did it!" she cheered. 12

Ada set the machine to 'Just Right' and pressed the button. The machine hummed softly. The gray clouds began to drift away, and a gentle breeze blew them out of the sky. The sun peeked through, and soon the sky was bright and blue again. The castle gardens sparkled with raindrops. Pip flew loops in the air, chirping joyfully. 13

King Bertram came outside and smiled. "The sky is clear! You did it, Ada!" He gave her a big hug, his red cape wrapping around her. Mrs. Plum hurried out with a tray of fresh pies. "The celebration can go on!" she announced. Ada beamed, her gap-toothed grin brighter than ever. 14

The next day, the harvest celebration began under a bright and sunny sky. There were games, music, and tables full of delicious food. King Bertram raised his crown. "Let's hear it for our royal cloudmaker, Princess Ada!" Everyone cheered. Ada blushed and waved. Pip perched on her shoulder, proud as could be.
