A Chapter from the Book
The Toy Kingdom Yavuz DEMİRKIRAN
Max woke up early on a sunny Saturday morning. His room was quiet, but something felt different. He sat up in his blue star pajamas and rubbed his big hazel eyes. Then he heard a tiny voice say, 'Good morning, Max!' He looked around, but no one was there. Where did that voice come from? 1
Max peeked over the edge of his bed. Down on the floor, his teddy bear was waving at him! Next to her, a wooden soldier was polishing his tiny sword. 'Your toys are alive,' whispered the teddy bear. 'We need your help. Please come to our hidden kingdom beneath your bed.' Max's mouth opened wide. His toys could talk! 2
Max climbed down and crawled under his bed. There, behind a secret door, was a whole kingdom! Tiny houses made of blocks lined the streets. Teddy bears in little shawls and wooden soldiers in red coats walked around. But nobody was smiling. 'Welcome, Max,' said the teddy bear. 'I am Mrs. HoneyPaws, and this is Captain Oak.' 3
Captain Oak stood tall in his red coat with gold buttons. He wore a tall black hat with a red plume. 'We wooden soldiers keep everything in order,' he said proudly. 'But the teddy bears won't follow our rules!' Mrs. HoneyPaws hugged her teacup. 'We just want to be comfortable,' she said softly. 'The soldiers are too strict.' 4
Max looked around the toy kingdom. The wooden soldiers marched in straight lines, while the teddy bears sat in cozy circles. They didn't play together at all. 'The soldiers never share their toys,' said a little bear. 'The bears never listen,' said a soldier. Max felt sad. He wanted everyone to be friends again. 5
Mrs. HoneyPaws spoke up. 'We need a king who can bring peace,' she said. 'Someone who cares about all of us.' Captain Oak nodded. 'Yes, a human king. Max, will you be our king?' Max's round cheeks turned pink. He had never been a king before. But he wanted to help. 'I'll try my best,' he said. 6
Max sat on a tiny throne made of building blocks. The teddy bears and wooden soldiers gathered around. 'First, tell me what you need,' Max said. Mrs. HoneyPaws held her teacup close. 'We need a cozy place to rest,' she said. Captain Oak stamped his wooden foot. 'We need room to march and practice,' he said. Max listened carefully. 7
Max thought and thought. Then he had an idea. 'What if we build a new kingdom with a cozy corner for the bears and a marching ground for the soldiers?' he said. 'And a shared garden where everyone can play?' The toys whispered to each other. Some nodded. Some looked unsure. 'We can try,' said Mrs. HoneyPaws with a small smile. 8
Everyone worked together. The wooden soldiers carried blocks for the marching ground. The teddy bears sewed soft cushions for the cozy corner. Max helped plant tiny flowers in the garden. 'This is fun!' said a little bear. 'I like building,' said a soldier. But Captain Oak still frowned. 'It's not perfect,' he said. 'We need more order.' 9
Max saw that Captain Oak was worried. 'What's wrong?' Max asked. The captain sighed. 'I want everything to be right,' he said. 'But I don't know how.' Max put a hand on his wooden arm. 'It's okay to ask for help,' he said. 'The bears are good at making things cozy. You are good at organizing. You can teach each other.' Captain Oak's painted eyes blinked. 10
The next day, Max called everyone to the garden. 'Let's share what we each do best,' he said. The teddy bears showed the soldiers how to make soft beds. The soldiers showed the bears how to build strong walls. Mrs. HoneyPaws poured tea for Captain Oak. He sipped it politely. 'This is nice,' he said. The toys began to smile. 11
Captain Oak stood up. 'I was wrong to be so stubborn,' he said. 'The bears have good ideas.' Mrs. HoneyPaws smiled. 'And the soldiers help us stay safe,' she said. The toys cheered. They started playing together. The bears rode on the soldiers' shoulders. The soldiers wore flower crowns. Max laughed happily. The kingdom felt warm and friendly. 12
Max gathered everyone around. 'You don't need me to be king anymore,' he said. 'You have learned to care for each other.' But the toys shook their heads. 'You will always be our king,' said Mrs. HoneyPaws. 'Because you listened and helped us.' Captain Oak nodded. 'A good king cares for everyone,' he said. Max felt proud and happy. 13
That evening, the toys held a celebration. There was music and dancing. Mrs. HoneyPaws served tea in tiny cups. Captain Oak led a parade with his soldiers. Max sat on his block throne and watched. He saw teddy bears and wooden soldiers laughing together. He knew they would take care of each other from now on. 14
Max yawned. It was time to go back to his room. 'Thank you, King Max,' said the toys. 'Will you come back?' Max smiled his gap-toothed smile. 'Of course,' he said. 'But you don't need a king to be kind.' He hugged Mrs. HoneyPaws and shook Captain Oak's wooden hand. Then he crawled back under his bed. 15
Max climbed into his bed and pulled up the covers. His toys were still again, but he knew they were happy. He learned that being a good king means caring for others. He closed his big hazel eyes and dreamed of the toy kingdom. And beneath his bed, the toys dreamed too, all together, in their peaceful, happy home.
