🎧 Listen to the Story · 6:36

On a gray, rainy afternoon, Oliver presses his nose to the windowpane and notices a single raindrop hanging outside the glass. Through his magnifying glass he discovers something impossible: a whole miniature village inside the drop, with curved-roof houses along a winding road and tiny villagers no bigger than his thumbnail. One of them, an orange-haired figure in an acorn-cap hat and leaf-green tunic, waves up at him, and Oliver waves back. He is soon introduced to Mayor Bramble, a round man with a bushy grey beard and round spectacles, and watches tiny bakers carry loaves no bigger than crumbs while children play with pebbles that look like boulders to them.

When the raindrop begins to slide down the glass, the villagers run in panic and Oliver realizes he must act quickly to save them without breaking their fragile world. A jar fails, so he runs next door to Professor Mira, a neighbor who loves curious things. Together they gently guide the drop into a shallow dish and then build a terrarium of moss, tiny stones and a small pool where the village can live safely. Mayor Bramble bows in gratitude, and the villagers sing a soft, tinkling song.

The story is a gentle tale for young readers about curiosity, careful observation and the courage to help even the smallest creatures. Through Oliver's rainy-day adventure, children learn that wonder can be found close to home and that kindness and quick thinking can protect the fragile things around us.

A Chapter from the Book

The Village Inside a Raindrop Yavuz DEMİRKIRAN

Oliver pressed his nose against the windowpane. Rain pattered softly on the roof, and the world outside turned gray and green. He wore his yellow raincoat and red rubber boots, ready for puddles. Around his neck hung a small magnifying glass on a string. Rainy days were his favorite for exploring, because you never knew what you might find. 1

A single raindrop hung right outside the glass, round and shiny like a tiny crystal ball. Oliver leaned closer, his hazel-green eyes wide. Inside the drop, something sparkled and moved. He gasped and grabbed his magnifying glass. Through the lens, the raindrop looked bigger, and what he saw made his heart skip. There was a whole world in there! 2

Inside the raindrop, tiny houses with curved roofs lined a winding road. Little figures walked about, no bigger than his thumbnail. One looked up and waved. It had bright orange hair, an acorn-cap hat, and a leaf-green tunic. Oliver waved back, his freckles bunching as he smiled. This was the most wonderful thing he had ever seen. 3

The tiny figure pointed to himself and then to the village. Oliver understood: he was showing off his home. More villagers gathered, including a round man with a bushy grey beard and a wooden walking stick. He wore a long burgundy coat and round spectacles. The orange-haired villager seemed to say, 'That's Mayor Bramble.' Oliver felt like he was meeting new friends. 4

Oliver watched as the villagers went about their day. Tiny bakers carried loaves no bigger than crumbs. Children played with pebbles that looked like boulders to them. A little fountain bubbled in the square. It was a miniature village full of life, and Oliver couldn't look away. He wished he could step inside and say hello properly. 5

Suddenly the raindrop quivered. It started to slide down the glass, slowly at first, then faster. The tiny villagers ran in all directions, their arms waving. Oliver's heart thumped. 'Oh no!' he cried. 'They're going to fall!' He had to do something, and fast. But how could he catch a raindrop without breaking it? 6

Oliver raced to the kitchen and grabbed a clean glass jar. He held it under the sliding drop, but the raindrop picked up speed and wobbled. He missed. The drop slid further, and the villagers huddled together in the square. Oliver's eyes filled with worry. He needed a better plan, and he needed help. That's when he thought of Professor Mira. 7

Professor Mira lived next door and loved curious things. Oliver banged on her door, breathless. 'Professor! There's a village inside a raindrop, and it's sliding away!' he said. She adjusted her round glasses, her dark eyes sparkling. 'A village in a raindrop? How extraordinary! Show me.' She grabbed her purple scarf and followed him into the rain. 8

Back at the window, the raindrop hung near the bottom, trembling. Professor Mira studied it through a special lens. 'It's a fragile micro-world,' she whispered. 'We must act gently.' She fetched a soft cloth and a shallow dish. 'If we can guide it into this dish, we can keep it safe.' Oliver nodded, his hazelgreen eyes determined. 9

Oliver held the dish while Professor Mira used the cloth to nudge the raindrop. It slid slowly, then plopped softly into the dish. The villagers tumbled but were unhurt. They stood up and looked around, amazed. Pip, the orange-haired villager, waved at Oliver and smiled. The whole village was safe for now, but they needed a permanent home. 10

Professor Mira led Oliver to her workshop, full of jars and tools. 'We'll build a terrarium,' she said. 'A little glass world with water, plants, and fresh air.' Oliver helped arrange moss, tiny stones, and a small pool. They placed the raindrop gently inside. The villagers explored their new home, their tiny faces full of wonder. 11

Mayor Bramble stepped forward and bowed deeply. 'Thank you, big friends,' he said in a tiny, creaky voice. 'You have saved our village.' Oliver beamed. 'You're welcome,' he said. 'I'm glad you're safe.' Pip waved from a mossy hill. The villagers began to sing a soft, tinkling song. Oliver felt warm inside, like he had done something truly good. 12

Professor Mira smiled. 'Even the smallest things can hold extraordinary wonders,' she said. 'You were curious enough to notice, and brave enough to act.' Oliver looked at the tiny village in the terrarium. He knew he would never forget this rainy day. He had made friends no bigger than his thumb, and they were safe because he cared. 13

From that day on, Oliver visited the terrarium every afternoon. He brought fresh water and tiny crumbs of bread. Pip and Mayor Bramble would tell him stories of their village. Sometimes Professor Mira joined them, taking notes in her little notebook. The rainy days became Oliver's favorite, because they reminded him of the magic he had found. 14

Oliver learned that wonder is everywhere, if you only look closely. A single raindrop can hold a whole world. And even a small boy can make a big difference with curiosity and kindness. He wore his magnifying glass proudly, ready for the next adventure. After all, you never know what might be hiding in the next drop of rain. 15

The tiny village lived happily in its glass home, and Oliver and Professor Mira watched over it. Pip and Mayor Bramble often waved from their little square. Oliver knew that the smallest things can be the most extraordinary. And whenever it rained, he smiled, because he knew that somewhere, a new wonder was waiting to be discovered.
