The Wish Flower

The Wish Flower

Yavuz DEMİRKIRAN

The Wish Flower is a children's fairy tale by Yavuz DEMİRKIRAN that follows a young protagonist who discovers a flower said to grant a single wish. Rather than treating the wish as a simple prize, the story turns it into a question: what do you truly want, and what are you willing to give up for it? As the child moves through the tale, encounters with other characters reveal how different people understand happiness, generosity and longing, and the choice of a wish becomes a quiet lesson in values rather than a magic trick.

The narrative is built for reading aloud and for early independent readers, with a clear sequence of events, gentle pacing and imagery that suits a fairy-tale setting. Parents and teachers will find it useful for conversations about empathy, patience and the difference between what we want and what we need. The story keeps its fantasy elements simple, so the focus stays on the character's decisions and their consequences.

The Wish Flower suits children in the early primary years, families looking for a bedtime story with something to discuss, and educators seeking short fairy tales for classroom reading. Readers who enjoy traditional tale structures with a moral centre, and adults who read alongside children, will find a compact story that invites reflection on kindness and responsibility.

Daisy lived in a cozy village called Sunnybrook, where the streets were tidy and the gardens bloomed. She had warm brown skin, curly black pigtails, and a gap-toothed smile. Her green satchel bounced as she explored every path. One bright morning, she skipped past the bakery and the fountain, humming a tune. Little did she know, today would bring a magical surprise. 1

At the edge of the woods, Daisy spotted a shimmering light. There stood a flower with five petals, each glowing like a tiny lantern. 'Oh!' gasped Daisy. Her friend Pip, a plump sparrow with a red scarf, landed on her shoulder. 'Careful,' he chirped. 'That looks like a wish flower!' Daisy's hazel eyes grew wide with wonder. 2

Daisy remembered Grandpa Ollie's stories about the wish flower. Each glowing petal grants one wish, but only if you truly mean it. 'I can wish for anything!' Daisy cried, bouncing on her red sneakers. Pip flapped his white-tipped wing. 'Maybe think first,' he warned. But Daisy was already dreaming of mountains of toys and giant cakes. She plucked the first petal without a second thought. 3

Daisy closed her eyes and wished with all her might. 'I wish for a mountain of toys!' she shouted. The petal floated up and burst into sparkles. Suddenly, toys rained from the sky! Dolls, balls, and kites piled high in the village square. Daisy laughed with delight, but the toys kept coming, blocking doors and windows. Mayor Bumble, in his navy waistcoat, ran out sputtering, 'What is this chaos?' 4

Pip tugged at Daisy's sleeve. 'The toys are everywhere!' he chirped. Daisy tried to climb the mountain, but it wobbled and toppled. Toys bounced down the street, knocking over flower pots. Mayor Bumble's gold buttons jingled as he waved his arms. 'My tidy village is ruined!' he cried. Daisy felt a twinge of worry, but she still had four petals. 'Maybe the next wish will help,' she thought. 5

Daisy plucked the second petal. 'I wish for a giant cake!' she declared. A huge cake appeared, taller than the bakery, with frosting and sprinkles. But it blocked the main road, and its sweet smell attracted swarms of bees. People couldn't walk to the market. Grandpa Ollie, leaning on his owl-handled stick, shook his head. 'Wishes can be tricky, Daisy,' he said gently. 6

Daisy frowned. 'But cakes are nice,' she said. 'I wanted everyone to be happy.' Pip fluttered nervously. 'The bees are chasing the mayor!' he squawked. Indeed, Mayor Bumble was running in circles, his moustache dotted with frosting. Daisy sighed. She still had three petals left. 'Maybe a garden full of butterflies will fix things,' she said, and plucked the third petal. 7

The third petal shimmered and vanished. Suddenly, butterflies swarmed everywhere! They covered the toys and the cake, and flew into people's faces. 'Too many butterflies!' cried the baker, waving her apron. The butterflies were beautiful, but they made it hard to see or walk. Daisy's friends began to grumble. 'Daisy, please stop wishing,' said a little boy. Daisy felt her heart sink. What had she done? 8

The village was in chaos. Toys blocked the streets, the cake attracted bees, and butterflies clouded the air. Mayor Bumble's pocket watch chain tangled in a kite string. 'This is a disaster!' he wailed. Daisy looked at the wish flower. Only two petals remained, glowing softly. She knew she had to fix everything, but how? Pip perched on her shoulder, his black eyes full of worry. 9

Daisy sat on a bench, feeling small. Grandpa Ollie came and sat beside her. 'Wishes are powerful,' he said, stroking his grey beard. 'But they should be made with care. Think of what everyone needs, not just what you want.' Daisy nodded slowly. She looked at the chaos around her. 'I need to make things right,' she whispered. Pip nodded. 'I'll help!' he chirped. 10

Daisy plucked the fourth petal. 'I wish for all the toys and cake to disappear, and for the butterflies to return to the garden!' she said. The petal sparkled, and whoosh! The toys and cake vanished. The butterflies fluttered away to the flower beds, where they belonged. The streets were clear again. Mayor Bumble blinked in surprise. 'Oh my,' he said, adjusting his bow tie. 'That's better.' 11

Daisy still had one petal left. She looked around. The village was tidy, but her friends seemed tired and unhappy. 'What should I wish for?' she asked. Grandpa Ollie smiled. 'Think of something that will bring happiness to everyone,' he said. Daisy thought hard. She remembered how much her friends loved the village fair. 'I wish for a village fair with games, treats, and music for all!' she declared. 12

The final petal glowed brightly and floated up. Suddenly, the square was filled with colorful tents, a merry-go-round, and a band playing cheerful tunes. Everyone cheered! Mayor Bumble's eyes lit up. 'A fair!' he exclaimed. 'How wonderful!' Daisy smiled as her friends laughed and danced. Pip chirped happily on her shoulder. The wish flower's stem remained, but Daisy knew she didn't need any more wishes. 13

The village fair was the best Sunnybrook had ever seen. Children played games, and adults shared stories. Grandpa Ollie handed out ribbons for the pie contest. Mayor Bumble, with a smudge of frosting on his moustache, declared it a grand success. Daisy felt warm inside. She realized that thinking of others made her happier than any toy or cake ever could.
