Golden Wings

Yavuz DEMİRKIRAN

Golden Wings is a children's fairy tale by Yavuz Demirkiran that follows a young character on a journey shaped by curiosity, kindness, and the courage to make difficult choices. Set in a world where magical creatures and ordinary people live side by side, the story centers on a pair of golden wings that carry both wonder and responsibility. Young readers are drawn into a gentle adventure in which the main character must decide what the wings are really for and what it means to use a gift well.

Through simple, vivid storytelling, the book explores themes children recognize from their own lives: friendship, trust, helping others, and learning that not every wish should be granted without thought. The tale moves at a pace suited to read-aloud sessions and early independent reading, with clear scenes and characters whose motives are easy for children to follow and discuss. Parents and teachers will find natural openings for conversations about empathy, patience, and the consequences of our actions.

Golden Wings is intended for young readers in the early primary years, roughly ages five to nine, and for adults who read with them. It works well as a bedtime story, a classroom read-aloud, or a first longer book for children ready to follow a plot across chapters. Readers who enjoy classic fairy-tale settings with a warm moral centre will find the story accessible and satisfying.

Golden Wings Yavuz DEMİRKIRAN

In a cozy village nestled between tall oak trees, lived Ruby, a young fairy with golden wings that sparkled like sunlight. Her warm light-brown skin glowed, and her honey-blonde hair was always in a loose bun. Everyone admired her beautiful wings. Ruby loved to zip and zoom through the air, showing off her shimmering flight. Her best friend Pip, a cheerful fairy with silvery-blue wings, often cheered her on. 1

One day, a terrible storm swept through the village. Wind howled and rain poured. Ruby tried to shelter under a mushroom, but the storm was too strong. Her delicate golden wings were torn and dulled by the battering rain. When the storm passed, Ruby looked at her wings and her amber eyes filled with tears. She could not fly. She felt very sad and helpless. 2

Pip rushed to Ruby's side. 'Don't worry, Ruby! We'll find a way to fix your wings,' Pip said, her green eyes bright with hope. Ruby sniffled. 'But I can't fly without them. What will I do?' Pip hugged her. 'We'll ask Gran. She knows everything!' They set off to find the village elder, hoping for answers. Ruby's heart felt a little lighter with Pip beside her. 3

Gran lived in a hollow tree at the edge of the village. She was short and sturdy, with silver braids and a warm smile. 'Your wings are hurt, little one,' Gran said gently. 'But flying needs more than wings. It needs patience and courage.' Ruby listened closely. 'There is a healing flower deep in the forest. It can mend your wings, but the journey is long and hard.' 4

Ruby took a deep breath. 'I'll go,' she said. 'But I can't fly. How will I get there?' Pip squeezed her hand. 'We'll go together. And I'll carry your satchel.' Ruby smiled. 'Thank you, Pip.' They packed berries and seeds, and Gran gave Ruby a tiny stone pendant for luck. 'Remember, trying your best is what matters,' Gran said. Ruby nodded and set off with Pip. 5

The path was bumpy and full of roots. Ruby stumbled, but Pip caught her. 'One step at a time,' Pip said cheerfully. Ruby's wings felt heavy, but she kept walking. They met a wise butterfly with deep violet wings and silver edges. The butterfly wore tiny spectacles and a glowing aura. 'I see you've lost your sparkle,' the butterfly said kindly. 'But flying is more than wings.' 6

The wise butterfly fluttered closer. 'Patience, little fairy. Courage grows with each step. And friends make the journey lighter.' Ruby thought about this. She had been so proud of her wings, but now she needed help. 'Will you teach me?' she asked. The butterfly nodded. 'Watch the wind. Feel its rhythm. Let it guide you.' Ruby closed her eyes and listened. For the first time, she felt a tiny spark of hope. 7

They walked for hours, over mossy logs and under ferns. Ruby's feet ached, but she didn't complain. Pip chattered about the healing flower. 'Gran says it glows like a star and smells like honey!' Ruby smiled. 'I can't wait to see it.' Suddenly, a thorny bush blocked their path. Pip tried to push through but got stuck. 'Help!' she cried. Ruby carefully untangled her, using patience and gentle hands. 8

Free at last, they continued. Ruby's wings drooped, but her courage grew. 'I can't fly, but I can walk,' she said. 'And I can help my friends.' Pip beamed. 'That's the spirit!' They reached a stream. It was too wide to jump. Ruby spotted stepping stones. 'We can cross here,' she said. One by one, they hopped across, careful not to slip. Ruby felt proud of her careful thinking. 9

On the other side, the forest grew darker. Ruby felt a shiver of fear. 'What if we never find the flower?' she whispered. Pip held her hand. 'We will. Remember what the butterfly said: patience and courage.' Ruby nodded. She took a deep breath and looked around. A tiny glow caught her eye. 'Look!' she gasped. There, in a patch of moonlight, grew a flower with petals like gold. 10

But the flower was surrounded by tall, prickly thorns. Ruby's heart sank. 'How can we reach it?' she cried. 'My wings are useless!' The wise butterfly appeared. 'Use your courage, Ruby. And your friends.' Pip had an idea. 'I can use my scarf to cover the thorns!' Together, they wrapped the scarf around the prickles. Ruby reached through and gently picked the flower. 11

As Ruby touched the flower, a warm light spread through her wings. The tears mended, and the dullness faded. Her golden wings shimmered once more! But Ruby noticed something else. 'I feel stronger,' she said. 'Not just my wings, but my heart.' Pip hugged her. 'You did it, Ruby!' The butterfly smiled. 'You learned that asking for help is a sign of strength.' 12

Ruby carefully placed the flower in her satchel. 'Let's go home,' she said. 'I want to show Gran.' They walked back through the forest, but this time Ruby didn't stumble. She felt steady and brave. When they reached the village, everyone gathered around. 'Your wings are beautiful again!' they cheered. Ruby smiled. 'Yes, but I learned something more important than beautiful wings.' 13

Gran was waiting. 'I see the flower worked,' she said. Ruby nodded. 'But it wasn't just the flower. It was patience and courage. And my friends.' Gran hugged her. 'You are wise beyond your years, little one.' Ruby looked at Pip and the butterfly. 'Thank you for helping me. I couldn't have done it alone.' They all smiled, knowing they had shared something special.
