The Tiny Submarine is a children's tale by Yavuz DEMİRKIRAN that follows a small submarine and the world it discovers beneath the waves. Written for young readers, the story turns the ocean into a place of curiosity and gentle adventure, where every reef, current and creature offers something to notice and wonder about.
Through the submarine's journeys, children meet the inhabitants of the sea and learn, in simple terms, how life under water works: how fish move together, how the seabed changes with depth, and why the ocean deserves care. The tale keeps its language clear and its pace calm, so it works well both as a read-aloud story for younger children and as early independent reading for those just starting chapter books.
The book is aimed at children roughly aged five to nine, along with parents, teachers and librarians looking for a quiet, imaginative story with a marine setting. Its themes of exploration, friendship and respect for nature give adults easy starting points for conversation after reading. Readers who enjoy animal characters, sea adventures and stories with a soft, reassuring tone will find The Tiny Submarine a warm introduction to the underwater world.

Ben loved to build things. One sunny morning, he turned an old lunchbox into a tiny submarine. He added a toy motor, a plastic window, and a propeller from a broken fan. His curly hair bounced as he worked, and his yellow rain boots tapped with excitement. 'This sub will explore the garden pond!' he said, grinning his gap-toothed grin. 1
On his workbench sat a strange invention Ben had found at a yard sale. It had buttons and a shiny antenna. Curious, Ben pressed the big red button. ZAP! A flash of light filled the room. When Ben opened his eyes, everything looked huge! The workbench was a giant field, and his submarine was now the perfect size for him. 2
Ben climbed into the submarine, still wearing his orange goggles. He carried it across the grass, which now felt like a jungle of tall green trees. At the edge of the garden pond, he took a deep breath. 'Here goes nothing!' he whispered. The little propeller spun, and the submarine dove into the water with a splash. 3
Under the surface, Ben gasped. The garden pond was full of life! Water insects zipped past like tiny rockets. Strange plants waved in the gentle current. Ben steered past a floating leaf and saw a water boatman paddling toward him. The insect had a glossy brown body, oar-like legs, and a tiny leaf cap. 'Hello!' it chirped. 'I'm Pip!' 4
Pip swam closer, his amber eyes wide with wonder. 'A tiny submarine! And a tiny hero! Where did you come from?' Ben explained his shrinking adventure. Pip laughed. 'You're just the right size for pond exploring!' He opened his reed satchel and pulled out a map drawn on a lily pad. 'Let me show you our secret world.' 5
Pip led Ben through a forest of feathery water plants. They passed a family of water fleas dancing in the sunlight. 'This is the garden pond,' Pip said. 'Every creature has a job. The snails clean the rocks, the nymphs keep the peace, and the plants make oxygen.' Ben listened carefully, amazed by the busy little world. 6
Suddenly, the water around them grew cloudy and green. A thick layer of slimy algae covered the rocks. 'Oh no!' Pip cried. 'The pond is out of balance! Too much algae means not enough light and air for everyone.' Ben saw water insects coughing and plants drooping. This was a big problem for such a small world. 7
Pip took Ben to meet Mara, the leader of the pond insects. Mara was a dragonfly nymph with turquoise eyes and a necklace of shiny pebbles. Her clawed legs rested on a smooth stone. 'The algae is growing too fast,' Mara said seriously. 'We need to find the cause.' Ben promised to help, and Mara nodded. 'Follow me to the underwater caves.' 8
Mara led them into a maze of underwater caves. The walls sparkled with tiny crystals, and strange glowing plants lit the way. In the deepest cave, they found Ollie the snail. His spiral shell was striped brown and cream, with moss growing on top like a tiny garden. He wore round spectacles and smiled slowly. 'I know old pond secrets,' Ollie said. 9
Ollie explained that the pond's balance had been upset when too many fallen leaves rotted in the water. 'The algae feeds on the rot,' he said. 'We must clean the leaves and add fresh plants to restore the air.' Pip and Mara nodded. Ben thought hard. 'My submarine can help!' he said. 'I can carry the leaves away.' The others cheered. 10
Ben and Pip worked together. Ben scooped rotting leaves into his submarine's cargo hold while Pip directed him with his map. Mara organized teams of water insects to plant new water weeds. Ollie told them where the best plants grew. Slowly, the water began to clear. The algae stopped spreading, and the pond creatures breathed easier. 11
After hours of teamwork, the pond sparkled again. Light reached the deepest corners, and the plants stood tall. The water insects gathered around Ben's submarine. 'You saved our home!' Pip cheered. Mara gave Ben a tiny pebble from her necklace. 'You are an honorary pond insect,' she said. Ben blushed with pride. 12
Ollie smiled warmly. 'You've done a wonderful thing, Ben. Remember, even the smallest hero can make a big difference.' Ben looked at his new friends and felt happy. Then Ollie handed him a tiny shell. 'This will help you return home,' he said. 'Press it when you're ready.' Ben thanked them all and climbed into his submarine. 13
Back on the surface, Ben pressed the shell. Another flash of light, and he was his normal size again, standing by the pond. His submarine was just a lunchbox once more, but the pebble from Mara was still in his pocket. He smiled, knowing his friends were safe. From that day on, Ben visited the pond every day, watching the water insects from the shore. 14
Ben never forgot his tiny adventure. He told his family about the secret world in the garden pond, and they listened with wide eyes. He learned that great discoveries can be found close to home, if you only look closely. And sometimes, the smallest heroes make the biggest splash. Ben grinned his gaptoothed grin and waved at the pond.
