The Button Village is a children's fairy tale by Yavuz DEMİRKIRAN set in a small community where buttons serve as more than fasteners: they are the everyday material out of which the villagers build their homes, tools, and traditions. Through gentle storytelling, the book invites young readers into a world that feels both familiar and wonderfully strange, where ordinary objects take on new life and the smallest details matter.

The story follows its characters as they navigate the small dramas and shared decisions of village life, learning about cooperation, resourcefulness, and the value of looking after one another. Themes of friendship, problem-solving, and respect for the community run through the narrative without heavy moralizing, leaving room for children to draw their own conclusions and ask their own questions.

Written for early readers and for adults reading aloud, the tale works well as a bedtime story or a classroom read. Its imaginative setting encourages curiosity and creative thinking, while the clear, warm narrative helps younger children follow along. Parents, teachers, and librarians looking for fairy tales with a distinctive setting and a calm, thoughtful tone will find this a useful addition to a child's reading list.

The Button Village Yavuz DEMİRKIRAN

Deep beneath an old sewing table, where dust floats like golden snow, there is a village made of buttons. Round buttons make doors. Flat buttons make windows. Big shiny buttons make wheels that roll along little button roads. This is Button Village, home to tiny people no taller than a thimble. Everyone here knows that lost buttons always find a new home. 1

In Button Village lives Dot, a button maker with bright copper hair and a red button hat. Her teal apron is stitched with yellow thread, and her tiny silver thimble bag jingles when she walks. Dot makes button doors and button wheels for everyone. Her small pointed ears hear every button click and clack. She loves her busy, humming village very much. 2

The village watermill runs on one giant button, the biggest in Button Village. It turns and turns, grinding thread into soft flour for button bread. Gran, the wise mill keeper, watches it with warm amber eyes. Her silver bun shines under her lavender shawl. "That big button keeps our whole village turning," Gran tells the children, tapping her spool-handled walking stick gently. 3

One morning, the great button is gone! The mill wheel stands still. No flour, no bread, no humming sound. Pip, a small child with black curls and orange overalls, runs to Dot fast. "The big button is missing!" Pip shouts, green scarf flying. Dot grabs her needle pin and nods bravely. "Then we will find it," she says. "But we will find it together." 4

Gran pats Dot's shoulder kindly. "Long ago, the big button rolled away once before," she says. "Lost buttons never truly vanish. They simply find new places to be." Dot studies the ground and spots a faint round track in the dust. Pip sees a loose thread lying beside it, bright red and long. "A clue!" Pip cheers, hopping on tiny bead boots. 5

Dot and Pip follow the red thread past rows of button houses. It leads toward the Fabric Mountains, where soft cloth rises in tall, colorful hills. The ground squishes under their feet. "Hold my hand," Dot says. "Fabric Mountains can be slippery." Pip holds tight, and together they climb through folds of blue cloth and yellow cloth, searching for any sign of the giant button. 6

On the other side, the Thread Forest waits, full of tall spools and hanging strands. It looks dark and tangled, but Dot is not afraid. "Stay close and listen," she whispers. Then they hear a low, gentle rumbling sound. Tock, the repairman, steps out from behind a spool! His green cap is crooked, and his brown tool belt clinks. "I followed the tracks too," he says quietly. 7

Tock looks at his work gloves and shuffles his feet. "I wanted to fix the mill alone," he admits. "But the wheel is too big for one repairman." Dot smiles her warmest smile. "Nobody fixes big things alone," she says. Pip nods so hard that black curls bounce. "Teamwork!" Pip shouts. Tock's square jaw relaxes, and he finally grins, showing the little scar on his chin. 8

Together, the three friends push deeper into the Thread Forest. Pip spots a bent spool pin. Dot finds a button-sized dent in the cloth. Tock notices tiny golden threads caught on a branch, sparkling like sunshine. The trail grows clearer and clearer. "We are close," Dot whispers. "I can feel it in my thimble." The forest opens into a bright, quiet clearing. 9

There, in the middle of the clearing, sits the giant button! But something is different. Tiny green sprouts curl up through its buttonholes. Soft moss covers its shiny top. A family of little beetles has built a cozy home beneath it. "Oh!" Dot gasps. "The button did not get lost. It became a garden!" Pip leans close and waves at the beetles. 10

The beetles wave back with tiny legs. "We needed a roof," one beetle explains, "and this big button was perfect." Tock scratches his chin. "But the mill needs its wheel back," he says. "How can we fix both?" Dot thinks hard, tapping her needle pin. Then her hazel eyes light up. "We build a new roof for the beetles," she says, "and take the button home!" 11

Everyone works together. Tock builds a tiny roof from bark and leaves. Pip carries moss in small handfuls. Dot stitches a soft leafy blanket with yellow thread. The beetles cheer and clap. "A better home than before!" they sing. Then Dot, Pip, and Tock roll the big button carefully out of the Thread Forest, over the Fabric Mountains, and all the way back home. 12

Gran is waiting at the mill, her round glasses shining. "You found our button!" she cries. Tock climbs up with his tool belt and fixes the wheel snugly in place, and this time he gladly asks for help. Dot and Pip push together. Click! Clack! The great wheel turns again. The watermill hums, and flour dust floats like happy snow over Button Village. 13

That evening, the whole village gathers for a big party. Button lanterns glow in every color. Pip dances with the beetles, who came to visit their old roof. Tock laughs loudly, and Gran tells the story of the search with her walking stick raised high. Dot passes out warm button bread to everyone. The village hums with music, laughter, and full, happy tummies.
