The Seahorse Delivery Service

The Seahorse Delivery Service

Yavuz DEMİRKIRAN

The Seahorse Delivery Service is a children's fairy tale by Yavuz DEMİRKIRAN that takes young readers into an underwater world where small creatures take on big responsibilities. At the center of the story is a seahorse who runs a delivery service, carrying messages and packages across the sea to the many animals who depend on him. Through his daily rounds, the book introduces children to the idea that even the smallest and slowest among us can play an important role in a community.

The tale follows the seahorse through the challenges of his work: difficult journeys, unexpected obstacles, and the needs of the sea creatures waiting for what he brings. Along the way, themes of trust, patience, helpfulness, and perseverance come through naturally in the story rather than as lessons stated outright. Children see how keeping a promise matters and how kindness travels from one creature to the next.

Written in simple, warm language suited to young listeners and early readers, the book works well as a read-aloud for parents and teachers or as a story children can begin to read on their own. It is intended for children in the early primary years who enjoy animal characters and gentle adventure, and for adults looking for a calm, imaginative tale with a clear emotional core.

In the bright blue ocean, where sunbeams danced on the sandy floor, lived a little seahorse named Percy. Percy was small, about the length of your finger, with a golden-orange body and a curling tail. His tiny translucent fins fluttered like soft fans, and his large turquoise eyes sparkled with curiosity. Around his neck hung a sky-blue messenger bag with a starfish clasp, a red ribbon strap, and a big dream inside. 1

Percy loved to watch the delivery fish zip through the coral, carrying parcels and letters. "One day, I'll be the ocean's greatest delivery worker!" he told a passing jellyfish. The jellyfish giggled and floated away. Percy practiced swimming fast, twisting through kelp, and keeping his bag safe. He even made a tiny sign for his bag that read 'Percy's Delivery Service' with a piece of chalk and a shell. 2

Down in Coral Village, a warm and chatty crab named Coral ran the post stand. Coral had a coral-pink shell with speckled spots, one larger claw, and a woven seaweed satchel full of letters. When Percy shyly offered to help, Coral's stalk eyes lit up. "A seahorse delivery service? What a wonderful idea!" she cheered, ringing her little brass bell. "I have my first letter for you, Percy. Take it to the sea cave on the east reef!" 3

Percy's first delivery was a success! He zipped through the coral arches, past swaying anemones, and up to the sea cave. A friendly octopus signed for the letter with a squiggle of ink. Percy's heart swelled with pride. Word spread quickly, and soon more creatures asked for his help. He carried messages between coral villages, underwater farms, and distant sea caves. Every delivery made his turquoise eyes shine brighter. 4

At the underwater farm, a family of clownfish needed seeds delivered to their neighbour. Percy carefully tucked the tiny package into his sky-blue bag and swam through the waving seaweed. The clownfish cheered when he arrived. "You're so reliable!" they said. Percy beamed. He loved the feeling of helping others, and his little fins fluttered with joy as he swam back to Coral Village to report his success. 5

One day, Coral gave Percy a special delivery: a bundle of important letters for the sea turtle elder, Finn. "He lives beyond the big current," she warned. "Be careful." Percy nodded, determined. He checked his bag twice, tightened the red ribbon strap, and set off. The water grew cooler and darker as he approached the current, but Percy's heart was brave and his bag was secure. 6

Suddenly, a powerful current whooshed around the corner! It spun Percy like a leaf in a storm. His bag flew open, and letters scattered everywhere. Percy tumbled head over tail, gasping. When the water finally calmed, he found his bag empty and his packages lost. His turquoise eyes filled with tears. "My deliveries!" he cried. "What will I do now?" 7

Percy felt like giving up. He swam slowly back to Coral Village, his tail drooping. Coral saw him coming and rang her brass bell gently. "Percy! What happened?" she asked. He told her about the current and the lost letters. Coral patted his fin with her big claw. "Don't worry, little friend. We'll fix this together. You're not a quitter, I know it." 8

Coral took Percy to see Finn, the wise old sea turtle. Finn had a deep green shell with amber swirl patterns, wrinkled greygreen skin, and gentle hazel eyes behind round wire spectacles. He listened carefully, then unrolled a map of the ocean floor tied with kelp string. "Currents can be tricky," Finn said. "But with the right labels and routes, you can outsmart them." 9

Finn showed Percy how to make waterproof labels from special seaweed. They wrote each address with squid ink that wouldn't wash away. Percy also learned safe routes around the current, using tall coral towers and quiet sea caves as landmarks. "Determination is your best tool," Finn said with a slow, calm smile. Percy practiced tying the labels tight and memorizing the new paths until he felt ready to try again. 10

The next morning, Percy set off with new confidence. He carried a fresh bundle of letters, each one marked with a waterproof label. He followed Finn's safe route, dodging the current and swimming through calm waters. When he reached the sea cave, the octopus cheered. "You did it!" Percy delivered every letter without losing a single one. His tiny heart felt like it might burst with happiness. 11

News of Percy's clever fix spread across the ocean. Creatures from far and wide asked for his help. "Percy's deliveries always arrive safe!" they said. Coral rang her brass bell proudly whenever he returned. Even the clownfish at the underwater farm sent him a thank-you card made of pressed seaweed. Percy's kindness and reliability were earning him something precious: the trust of the whole underwater community. 12

Percy didn't stop there. He taught other young seahorses how to make waterproof labels and find safe routes. He shared Finn's map with everyone. "Small helpers with big hearts can make a big difference," he told them. Coral added a new sign to her post stand: 'Percy's Delivery Service – Trusted by the Ocean.' And it was true. Everyone counted on Percy, and he never let them down. 13

One evening, as the sun set over the water, Percy sat on a piece of coral and looked at his sky-blue bag. He thought about his first scattered delivery and smiled. "I'm glad I didn't give up," he said to Coral, who was sorting letters nearby. "Me too," she said, ringing her bell softly.
