The Secret Recipe is a children's fairy tale by Yavuz DEMİRKIRAN that follows a young protagonist on a quest to uncover a recipe whose ingredients and purpose have been kept hidden for years. Along the way, the child meets a cast of memorable characters, each of whom holds a piece of the puzzle, and learns that the secret is not simply a list of ingredients but a way of seeing the world and the people in it.
Through gentle storytelling and imaginative settings, the book explores themes of curiosity, patience, honesty, and the value of sharing what we know with others. Young readers are invited to think about what makes something truly special: the care taken in preparing it, the people it is made for, and the memories attached to it. The tale moves at a pace suited to read-aloud sessions and early independent reading, with clear scenes and characters children can picture easily.
The Secret Recipe is intended for children roughly aged five to nine, as well as parents, teachers, and storytellers looking for a warm narrative with a quiet lesson at its heart. It works well as a bedtime story, a classroom read-aloud, or a starting point for conversations about tradition, family, and the small acts of kindness that bring people together.

The Secret Recipe Yavuz DEMİRKIRAN
Sophie was a girl with two messy buns of curly black hair and a gap-toothed grin. She loved to cook, but she never liked to wait. One sunny morning, her grandpa came to visit. He wore his olive cardigan and round glasses, and he carried a mysterious brown book. "This is for you, Sophie," he said with a wink. "But remember, good cooking needs patience." 1
Sophie took the book and opened it wide. The pages were filled with strange recipes. There was invisible soup, floating pancakes, and biscuits that whistle. Her hazel eyes grew big. "Wow!" she whispered. "I want to make all of them!" Her mum smiled and said, "Why don't you start with one? And read the instructions carefully." But Sophie was already running to the kitchen. 2
The kitchen was warm and bright. Sophie put on her mum's cream apron with the little heart pocket. She pulled out bowls, spoons, and flour. She decided to make invisible soup first. She opened the magic cookbook and glanced at the page. "Easy!" she said. She tossed in carrots, onions, and a pinch of pepper. But she didn't read the part about stirring slowly. She just stirred fast and giggled. 3
Suddenly, the carrots began to bounce! They hopped out of the pot and across the floor. An onion rolled under the table. Sophie's mouth dropped open. "What's happening?" she cried. The soup was supposed to be invisible, not the vegetables! She tried to catch a bouncing carrot, but it slipped through her fingers. The kitchen was getting messy. 4
Sophie turned the page to the floating pancakes. "Maybe this will be easier," she thought. She mixed flour, milk, and eggs in a big bowl. But she didn't read the note that said to whisper the magic word. She just poured the batter into the pan. Soon, pancakes were floating up to the ceiling! They bumped against the lamp and stuck to the walls. "Oh no!" Sophie gasped. 5
Then she tried the biscuits that whistle. She rolled the dough and cut out little circles. But she skipped the part about humming a tune. She put them in the oven and set the timer. In a minute, the oven began to shake. The biscuits popped out and started whistling a happy tune. They whistled so loud that the spoons in the drawer began to sing along! 6
Sophie's kitchen was a disaster. Bouncing vegetables, floating pancakes, and singing spoons filled the room. The sink was full of bubbles, and flour dusted everything like snow. Sophie's cheeks were red with flour smudges. She felt like crying. "I just wanted to cook," she said. "But I didn't read the instructions." 7
Just then, Mum walked in. She saw the bouncing carrots and the floating pancakes. She didn't get angry. She just smiled her gentle smile. "Looks like you're having an adventure," she said. "But maybe you should try reading the recipes more carefully." Sophie nodded. "I will," she said. "But first, can you help me catch the carrots?" 8
Mum and Sophie ran around the kitchen, catching bouncing carrots and dodging floating pancakes. Grandpa came in and laughed. "I told you, good cooking needs patience!" he said. He pulled his wooden spoon from his pocket and helped scoop up the singing spoons. Soon, they had everything back in the bowls. The kitchen was still messy, but they were ready to try again. 9
Sophie took a deep breath. She opened the magic cookbook and read every word out loud. "For invisible soup, stir slowly three times and say 'simmer and hide.'" She followed each step carefully. She stirred slowly and whispered the words. The soup turned clear as glass! "It worked!" she cheered. Mum clapped her hands. 10
Next, Sophie read the floating pancake recipe. "Whisper 'rise and shine' before pouring." She whispered the words and poured the batter. The pancakes puffed up and floated gently to her plate. She stacked them high and added syrup. They were perfect! Then she read the biscuit recipe. "Hum a happy tune while mixing." She hummed and mixed, and the biscuits came out golden and warm. They whistled a soft, sweet song. 11
Sophie set the table with the invisible soup, the floating pancakes, and the whistling biscuits. Mum and Grandpa sat down to eat. "This is the best soup I've ever not seen!" joked Grandpa. Mum took a bite of pancake. "Delicious!" she said. The biscuits whistled as they were eaten. Everyone laughed and enjoyed the funny food. 12
Sophie smiled her gap-toothed grin. She felt proud. She had learned something important. "Cooking is more fun when you read carefully," she said. "And when you take your time." Mum hugged her. "You did a great job, Sophie," she said. "And you cleaned up the mess, too." The kitchen was tidy again, and the air smelled sweet. 13
From that day on, Sophie used the magic cookbook often. She always read the instructions first. She discovered new silly recipes, like giggling jelly and dancing dumplings. But she never rushed. She learned that experimenting works best with patience and attention. And her family loved tasting her creations. They always asked for more. 14
Grandpa visited often, and Sophie made him her famous whistling biscuits. He would tap his wooden spoon and tell jokes while she cooked. Mum would sit at the table, sipping tea and smiling. The kitchen was always warm and happy. And Sophie's two messy buns bounced as she worked, but she never forgot to read the recipe first.
